Microsoft and Blu-ray talking all along

According to one of Microsoft’s lead marketing guys, Jeff Bell, Microsoft has been in talks with Blu-ray for a long time now. With what he’s said, it sort of sounds like Microsoft is a bit concerned over the Warner Bros switch, even though they don’t really say it directly.
Jeff had this to say about the situation, "We've been talking to Blu-ray all along because we have the best piece of software in the business, called HDi. It is the backbone that powers interactivity in HD-DVD and we have that available to potentially partner with others," also during his conversation with 1up, he also had this to say. "You never say never. I think we'd like to see how things evolve. Our commitment, however, to HD-DVD is profound and consistent, and we have done very, very well in term of our accessory sales."
Obviously Microsoft still qualifies Paramount, DreamWorks, and Universal as prime supporters for the HD DVD format, but how long do they feel this will stay concrete? The possibility of both Paramout and DreamWorks jumping ship are very high, as is the opportunity for Universal to back both formats with their decision to not renew their exclusive contract.
This could only mean good things for the Blu-ray format, as expanding your market in any area is only going to do well. Even if it means an add-on for the rival console on the market, it would eventually help put an end to the format war and finally get Blu-ray supporters the entire list of movies released.

Micro$oft want to confuse the consumer so they have time to prepare their downloadable content platform, its their way of wasting peoples time so they have time to prepare a system with less faults (Unlike with the Xbox 360 I.E. full of faults cause it was rushed)

Microsoft is just mad because the format war came out with a victor before they could start their digital download services.

I don't blame Microsoft for hanging on the HD-DVD wagon for as long as they have; even in the midst of defeat they still cling on to the very last strands of life. To feel "defeated" by Sony and Blu-ray must have hit them pretty hard emotionally. If Microsoft and Sony can work together for Blu-ray, then I see many good things happening in the future.

Microsoft wants a piece of that mraket, and they know HD-DVD is likey going to loose. God forbid MS not have their hand in everything and making rediculous profit for little effort. They want their buggy HD software on Blu-ray. Sony, don't take their money!

This is their way of trying to look like they were supporting the winner regardless of who actually wins. It's like saying "Yeah we're backing Gore but we've been having lunches with Bush jr. to get to know him just because he looks like he might have a chance."

MS probably talks to BDA probably like this
"Oh BDA, please use HDi! Otherwise we can no longer get royalties from the HD disc-based movie industry."

So M$ basically said,if HD-DVD doesn't increase it's sales, they'll say "SCREW YOU TOSHIBA" and agree to let BDA use the HDi software in Blu-ray.Sounds good to me.

HDI is the closed format Microsoft language that competes with Java. Microsoft only backed HD-DVD because they hate Java, and now that Java is open source they have a lot more to hate. When (not if), Blue-Ray becomes the defacto standard in most houses, then people will have a LOT more than a DVD player. They will have a player that can run a very rich development languate AND good storage for their data. Bascially developers can start to do some very cool stuff with content on a Blue-Ray disc. That cool stuff will NOT require any Microsoft product(s) and that probably scares Microsoft some.
I would love to be at the table again when Microsoft tries to negotiate with Sun again for a Java licence.
