Mirror's Edge is around 12 hours long

In an interview with the tittering old-timers at Kikizo, EA DICE's Manuel Llines has revealed that ice-cool first-person platformer Mirror's Edge is around 12 hours in length.
This discounts replay value, however, which is said to be immense thanks to the multi-levelled, branching path design of each area. "Unlike extremely open world games like Oblivion, we decided to have a focussed game with a focussed storyboard, a focussed experience," Llines commented. "But on the other hand, Faith as a runner is extremely agile, and even just in the [starting] area - and of course bigger areas even more so - they accommodate a number of permutations in how to traverse it. It's really scary!"
To illustrate said scariness, he pointed out that one of the opening areas can be traversed in 40 minutes or a mere seven, depending on your route and skillfulness.
"That's 500% [quicker] which is a scarily high number," Llines went on. "Which means that if you're good at it... You can play the game if you're not super-skilled, but you can become as good as you want. So I think it's a long difficulty curve, but the replay is nice because you can complete a level and get the reward, then run back and get a more spectacular time."
Plenty more info through the link, including top anti-SWAT team tips (in essence: kick them in the nuts and steal their guns).
Mirror's Edge is out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11 in North America and November 14 in Europe. The PS3 version will benefit from exclusive downloadable content.

I loved the idea of it and from everything I saw it stood to be great.
However I was very skeptical of how linear it may be. After playing the demo, I also felt the character movement was extremely well done and although my skepticism has not completely vanished, I do think this will turn out to be a classic that (hopefully) will start a trend in how developers look at 1st person character movement, and what 3rd person developers could develope into their games.
I still don't understand why developers limit their fanbase to those of one persuasion or the other, when they could have best of both worlds as we had with the old Socom.
IMO..this character movement & gameplay is what TombRaider should have become, instead of the arcade like shoot-em-up it did become. lets hope this spawns a new TombRaider style adventure game with the old mythical atmosphere, puzzles and gameplay that we had in TR1, yet with these character movements.
Now I ask you...who would not love that....apart from the run & gun noob blaster lovers out there.

This is the opposite of what i read on the sixth axis. It said there that this game is short (only 6 hours in total) and that the time trial takes only 75 minutes, they must be very good at this game then ;)

Maybe its is only 6 hours long if you are decent player & use the colour aids to show you the route .
The longer time might be the average gamer without the colour aids active.?
Who knows.....if its good, then its good.
This is a game I will buy at some stage, simply for the fact that the developers are actually thinking & applying good character movement in a 1st person game.
We need more of this movement in other games, not to mention the enviroment/character interactivity...especially in FPS games.
If developers read this...then take note at what DICE have done & improve what we will see in future games.;)

I'm still not sure on the replay value of the game, that and future DLC and some sort of online features are the only things holding me back here!
You can spend 40 minutes doin a 7 minute area? Not that I'm sayin you need to take the quick route, but that's human nature! In GTA, if you have to start the mission at the southern most point of the island, but you need to race to the top to kill a target, you naturaly go for the quickest mode of transport usualy...
Saying this games unique selling point is how to spend 500% more time doin the same map is not a unique point at all!!! It's like in MGS4, you could kill every enemy and bozz, or you could Tranq them. It's nothing new.
Has anyone mentioned anything about collectable items? If I'm gonna spend up to 500% more time tryin to use every item on the roof, and climb to the top of a pillar, you better believe I hope there's somethin up there for me to run into and collect, so I feel a sense of pride and achievment!!! Not just to say I took the long road...

He's saying most beginner players will take the normal to longish route, then try to improve their time by taking the more complex sections of the map, which are faster but harder. Reading = the more you know.

12 hours? Thats too short for me, especially since there is no real multiplayer or nothing. I mean, $60 is a lot of money now a days (a least for me); I want something that will last or at least make me want to replay it over again.
