A countdown bearing the Mortal Kombat logo has appeared on website noob.com, prompting widespread belief that an announcement on the popular fighting series will be issued later this month.

The countdown itself, currently at 17 days at the time of writing, ties in ideally with Midway’s forthcoming Gamer’s Day on April 17. It should also be noted that the website, noob.com, is registered to Mortal Kombat Co-Creator, Ed Boon, and owned by Midway.

Perhaps most conspicuous is the appearance of several animals; a rhinoceros, an aardvark, a gorilla, and an elephant, with cryptic numbers listed below. When translated, these numbers apparently read “free klose.”

With a next-generation Mortal Kombat due out later this year, it seems likely that Midway would be gearing up for an official unveiling at some point in the coming months.

We’ll have more on this development in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned.

Its supose to form the word RAGE acording with another website.

Looks like Ed Boon ist trying to be J.J. Abrams XD.

Anyways, I prefer to call the new MK just "MORTAL KOMBAT" instead "MK: Wathever" because its a reimagine of the Universe a la Batman Begins, or at last its what they say.

Anyway looking for it!!! (But with fear because it uses the Unreal Engine 3, And thats maybe means troubles for the PS3.)

Can't wait for the reveal! Wonder is it called MK: Eyes of RAGE ?

BTW ProfSebastian, it's actually not a reimagining of the MK universe. They are just wiping the slate clean, meaning new characters, new game engine, new storylines etc....

@Nick_Scryer I have read long time ago that they used the armageddon and the third final (The Taven final) To recreate a new universe based in a similar storyline that will use the new movie, but maybe Im wrong. (You know the hard to find true information these days, with so many rumors and speculations).

I no one thing this better be good the last few MK's have been really bad... they better come with some fresh ideas because these same finishing moves and same combos aren't cutting it anymore .....

I was a huge Mortal Kombat fan, until the series went 3D. Everything since has been gradually downhill. Still, I'm always interested in MK news. Maybe the fresh slate is what the series needs.

Well MK has always been a good fighting game, but I seriously want this to come out in '09 because there's a bunch of games I want to get in '08, yet only 4 in '09.

The last Mortal Kombat I played was on my cousin's SNES.  I might have to hop back on the bandwagon.

    "FINISH HIM"

Flawless Victory....that's what this game will require to compete against all the fighters for this year!  But I doubt if they'll be able to release this game in '08!!!
