This latest firmware update for PSP may not have a massive list of features, but we're fairly sure that you'll be quite excited come its completed installation. Firmware 3.90 is comprised of the following:

* Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded
* Skype has been added as a feature under Network (Only for PSP-2000 series)

Sony never announced a date for the Skype feature, only hinting that it would drop in the month of January. We're pleasantly surprised that they made their self-inflicted deadline. If you have a PSP, hop online and download the new update now. For more details on Skype, check out the official website right here

I thought DarkAlex quit making custom firmware.

    ---

@Alpha2 - Yes, early buyers do take risks.  But Sony wouldn't be where they are now if they didn't have early buyers.  If they didn't have the fanbase set from day 1, the PSP Slim might not have seen the light of day.

    ---

If I could actually get some trade-in value for my PSP I would.  Traders get screwed at game stores anymore. $0.75 for Tomb Raider trade-in and they turn around and sell for $5? Rediculous.

Maybe Sony will include a PS3 firmware update only for consoles with no BC.  Makes sense to me...

im pissed about sonys decission here i know the first new psp is great but i still feel for everyone who bought the original psp like me should get the same apps. and sony wonders why people switch to homebrew and unlooking there psp's.

I'm not going to use Skype anytime soon personally, but I do agree with some of the other posters about buying the older PSP.  I bought 2 of the older models and one of the newer models.  It sucks that some features won't work on the older.  I didn't think they were that much technically different.

All these new features are wrong because us gamers with older psp models get none of these features, and there's no way i'm getting the newer model and we say enough about msoft emptying our wallets if you ask me there all the same.
