Fresh from taking over the reigns at Team Ninja, Yosuke Hayashi has acknowledged that punters are eager to see a continuation of the Ninja Gaiden franchise, and more importantly, feels the company are in a position to see it through.

Speaking to Kikizo, Hayashi commented, “What the gamers are looking for is going to be the next chapter - the future of an outstanding series. We feel that we’re in a position of being able to make that call… That calling is already there - we feel it”.

Colour us somewhat surprised, considering former Team Ninja big wig Tomonobu Itagaki said in May last year that Ninja Gaiden 2 was going to wrap up the series once and for all.

Still, it’s obvious Hayashi-san and team are eager to continue the series, and from the look of things, it won’t be limited to one console: “We’re going to have to push ourselves to the next level, and we are better off giving both audiences an entirely new game,” he added.

Ninja Gaiden II will be hitting PlayStation 3 later this year.

Why would Itagaki say that NG2 was the last in its series? Other than being tired of the same gameplay and not wanting to create something new...I don't see why it couldn't continue...it's not like there's a huge storyline behind it, is there? I'm sure they can always make another NG. I think DMC is more story-heavy than NG and yet DMC's storyline could continue on easily.

I heard that there was going to be 3 NG games... probably just nonsense I just picked up somewhere, still I love NG, graphics weren't as good as Uncharted but I liked more because of it's style and aim of what they were trying to accomplish.

Good, now that king tool Itagaki is gone, the company may be able to focus on making a good, difficult game that actually looks better than its predecessor.  Im sorry NG2 on the 360 only looked slightly better than the first.
