PS3 is "out of the woods," says Stringer

Sony Corporation Chairman Sir Howard Stringer has said that he is confident in the increased drive of PlayStation 3 sales, declaring that the company’s next-generation console is firmly “out of the woods.”
Speaking to Reuters at the recent World Economic Forum, Stringer stated, "PS3 has now gone past Xbox on the Christmas market. It's moving into its own as it gets into higher bandwidth ... PS3 is out of the woods and beginning to hold its own.”
Despite this, he noted that the firm is keeping a close eye on the Japanese Yen, adding, “There is always an impact on exports. The yen is volatile ... We watch it with some anxiety.”
Stringer attributed these concerns to a weakened yen, which last week dropped 1.4 per cent against the EURO and 0.8 per cent against the dollar, according to reports from Bloomberg.

Yes it certainly is turning the corner after a very bad year due to very bad press and very bad launch titles according to game journos, though i thought resistance was brilliant, and it's only now the sony fanboys are buying the ps3 due to a great 08 launch line up, and even more good news to get a ps3 is a test was done by techno’s to see the over all power of the ps3 and they found the ps3 10 × times more powerful than xbox 360 and 5 × times more powerful than the Geforce GTX 8800, fact go check for ourselves xbots @N4gamers.com, so xbots put that in your pipes and smoke it, ps3 cell is going to be awesome.

About the yen.. He is talking about how the sinking value of the yen has an impact on the export. So if I understand it right he is concerned about the cost in the world outside Japan.
As an example: the 40 Gb costs 39980 JPY which is 376 USD today. Let's say that the yen drops 5% to the dollar. That will make the 40 Gb cost 396 USD instead. Making it harder to export from Japan.
Now, I don't know if the PS3 is only produced in Japan and if they are that dependent on export. Though, the article make it sound like it.
EDIT: of course it is also the other way around: import into Japan will be cheaper if the yen drops.

To expand on what ephracis was saying. The yen had risen recently which is concerning for exports from Japan. Here's the logic: If the yen drops from 100y: 1USD to 110y: 1USD then it costs more in Japan (10 yen more) to make something that still sells at the same price in the US (or EU or wherever- Australia I'm looking at you).I hope that makes sense for everyone -

It means the OG Xbox, not the 360.
