Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch, has apparently confirmed that a multiplayer component for Grand Theft Auto VI – presumably an extension of the existing Grand Theft Auto Online — will launch in 2027.
“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer,” said Clancy.
While on the subject of Grand Theft Auto Online, Take-Two Interactive said during its virtual Annual Meeting of Shareholders earlier this week that the current iteration of the popular multiplayer title will be supported beyond the launch of GTA VI. As such, it’s possible it will be updated beyond the GTA V template so that it will instead based on the next game in the series.
GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November. We will continue to support GTA Online after the Grand Theft Auto 6 release and beyond.
GTA VI is scheduled for release on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and will receive an official album via Atlantic Records for streaming platforms, vinyl and CD. A recent series of hands-off previews following Netflix’s An Extended Look confirmed that the map in GTA VI will clock in at twice the size of its predecessor, while Rockstar’s Rob Nelson revealed that he took around 80 hours to finish the main story.
