Users on the official PlayStation forums have reported multiple hardware issues since installing the Firmware 2.0 update on their PlayStation 3 console.
PS3 owners claim that, since installing the update, their consoles have experienced a number of issues, some of which include serious hardware faults, such as the machine’s inability to read game discs or indeed ceasing to function at all.
Other oddities include a slow down of performance and loss of content.
Sony Computer Entertainment has yet to comment on the alleged faults. Stay tuned to PSU for more developments as they become available.

My problem is with the remote play, like everyone else, as soon as I enable Remote Play and turn the PS3 off, it will turn on and off all by itslef over and over and over. So I have to diable Remote Play, which defeats the whole point of the update for me, as that was what I was looking forward to most. The forums has 25 pages (and counting) of people having the same problem as me. And this is the first problem Sony/Playstation has given me, and I have been with Sony since the tail-end of the PS1 days. Interesting to see how it plays out.

@ sniperwithacause...... the PSn was down at that time!!.... some profiles glitched and showed they were on, but they really weren't.. nothings wrong with your console :)..
@mlgacc... the problem is one of 2 things.... 1 your PS3 is spuing photons(too close to your tv) and is effecting the screen, 2 you have a cable thats NOT capable of noise reduction, isn't gold plated, or simply cracked, or possibly getting interference from a power source, or another device ...
@Mrace, quit using old dvd's, cds.... stick with new, clean, Blu-rays and dvds.... the blue lazer lense is very sesitive to dust, water, debre, ect. without the BRD, the PS3 is useless(No more sketchy, strachy, questionable rented disks)... it is possible the drive was faulty, but in mass production, flaws are duplicated, and your the only person i have heard this from.....
@ACHILL6969.... nothings wrong!....turn off autoload disk feature bro!!!!
@soul_reaper25, i'd love to help, but i seriously can't understand your hip-gangster-wannabe grammer.... learn english, get a GED...then we'll talk....just joking, seriously though.... i really can't understand your style... re-post(i won't add people from here)
@the rest of you, its simple logic.... you hear about problems, now you'll be looking for them... Sony almost always releases another patch FW .01 .1... .4 lol...ect... it'll get fixed..... issues with COD4, are server issues guys.....
Freezes won't break a PS3.... does crashes ever breal a good PC?.... rarely.... sony products don't die, without a fight... unless you neglect it...

I had a problem after I installed the update. When I would try to boot up MLB the Show Just before it was suppose to go to the start screen it would go back to the playstation media bar it did this over and over. I thought I had a scratch on the disc but all was clear. I finally put in Resistance to see if it would do it with that and it booted up fine. I put MLB back in and it worked fine. No problems since. Kind of strange

The only problem i have had since this update is that sometimes while playing online i will get disconnected from the psn and then i can't get back on. So far the only solution I've found is to shut her off for an hour before i turn her back on. Strange and somewhat annoying but I can live with it. Anybody else with the 60GB model having this problem?

As with ANY downloadable patch if it's corrupted in transmission it's going to cause problems. I havent yet seen a single issue to worry about with my 2.0 and one a hand full of others in the forums are noticing anything too horribly out of the ordinary so it's clearly not something everyone will deal with.

Well, my PS3 just got sent back today to be replaced. The video output crapped out after the 2.0 update. It sucks, but at least it happened before the warranty ran out at the end of this week.

I've had problems off and on for months where once and a while it will not read a blu-ray movie (not sure about a game). All it takes is a restart and it reads the disc fine. I really don't even consider it a problem because it's fixed so easily and doesn't reappear for weeks or months.

I downloaded the update and have had no issues thus far. About the only thing that was went hay wire is when i enabled the remote play turn on. It kept turning its self on which was annoying.

Just created an account here so that I could post my experience with this.
Pre 2.00 firmware everything was perfectly fine, since 2.00 the XMB is a little slower with the information bar loading every time you leave one of the menus.
I hadn't had any crashes until yesterday when I started up Ratchet and Clank demo, froze before it even did the "PLAYSTATION 3" logo thing, it was stuck on the XMB ratchet & clank screen.
Turned off the PS3, turned it back on, turned off the Information Board, started Ratchet & Clank demo again, and it worked like a charm again.

i updated to 2.0.1 was fine for about 2 hours, then froze druing a NFS:Pro Street loading scene, waited 10 minuts was forced to quit game via the ps button on the controller, now no mater what game i put in nothing comes up in the game menu, you can imagine this is extremely frustrating, i cant play anything, i thought about restoreing it but i cant back up my data because it requires more than 2 gig and i dont own a flash or thumb drive with that capacity, tried pluging in my ext 500G hdd and it doesnt register at all, i refuse to loose all my hard worked saved data. sony beter fix this one fast.

hey guys, my ps3 turns on till the background appears and the music and then the user screen never appears. the background just keeps moving. some times the ps3 boots but no picture at all appears. To me it sounds corrupt any thoughts though? any way of resetting the ps3 without the GUI?
