PlayStation 3 hits 10.5 million consoles sold

An article released by the Associated Press has indicated that Sony has now sold 10.5 million consoles worldwide. It was widely known that Sony had the goal of reaching 11 million consoles sold by the end of March. These latest figures have put Sony on track to probably surpass that 11 million console mark by the end of March.
One key factor to remember about these figures are that they do not count for consoles shipped. Sony has always had a strong belief and following of only counting actual consoles sold to their official numbers. This would indicate that Sony has therefore shipped well over 10.5 million consoles thus far.

Stickemup, the article says, " It was widely known that Sony had the goal of reaching 11 million consoles sold by the end of March." Unless you're referring to February's goal, then your answer is in there for you.
Muzikguy, many experts were actually in favor of Sony. The media just covered them up with idiotic Xbox fanatics on various gaming shows, internet communities, and general networks. Don't get me wrong-- I don't have anything against people who own Microsoft's console, but the 360-owning FANATICS drive me crazy.
This is great news. I'll be sure to cite this source when necessary :).

Didn't we all know this? Jan 31 SONY released its Q3 report and it was widely circulated by AP. This is 10.5 to the end of Dec btw.
Dave. This is SOLD to retailer as opposed to shipped to warehouses. It still doesn't mean SOLD to consumer. MS/SONY/Nin all report this way now.

They could have a lot more if they used MS's philosophy and counted shipped units. Now I wonder if MS counts all those units they had to send back for RRoD.

The PS3 is selling very well considering that it costs more than both the Xbox 360 and Wii. Also, the PS3's sales are spread out all over the entire world unlike the Xbox 360's sales. Over half of the 360's sales have come from the U.S. alone and this just re-enforces the fact that the PS3 is a more diverse console for more diverse gamers. The PS3 is a global console and that's why it has the advantage and why it will outsell the Xbox 360.
I wouldn't be suprised if the PS3 catches up to the 360 in total number of consoles sold by the end of this year or surpasses 360 console sales because when MGS4 comes out, the scramble to get a PS3 and PS3 pandemonium will officially begin. 2008 is going to be a good year for the PS3.

Indeed. please note that this is just what they've sold to stores, These systems still have to make it into homes before we can truely celebrate. Then when they drop the DualShock 3 on people and we get the next batch of big games we should be back on a level playing field with even Nintendo and their silly wii fad.

I always knew that Sony will start taking back the throne soon enough... And seeing Blu Ray officially killed HD-DVD the sale will just keep getting better. And then there is the famous arguement of the 360 Fanbots"... But the PS3 has NO games...." They can suck my C**** as we all know what titles are lying ahead... And sure we lost some exclusives... GTAIV, Silent Hill 5 and Resident Evil 5... But we are getting MGS4, FFXIII, Killzone 2, 8 Days, Little Big Planet and a whole lot more. And I have a funny feeling some of our "lost" exclusives will return to their platform soon enough...

Sony is smart. Sony is loyle to its customers, and there know what they are doing. I'm glad I own a Playstation 3 and not any of the other consoles. I mad the right desision.

These numbers seem a little lagged. I remember when it was announced that Sony sold more units in 2007 than 360 they had already met the 10.5 mark. So I think these numbers may be off somehow.
