Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition will be released in downloadable content form for PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE marketplace next spring.

The company held a fan poll early last month prompting users to pick whether they’d like to see the game released as either DLC or physical disc, with the former coming out on top with 1500 votes.

Chief among Alternative Edition’s major attractions is a new co-op mini-game staring BSAA buddies Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, as they attempt to infiltrate the Spencer Mansion prior to the events of the main game. Alternative Edition also incorporates the use of Sony’s new motion-sensing controller, allowing players to aim and shoot ala RE4: Wii Edition.

Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition is due out in spring 2010.

Thought that this would be bundled with the Wand. Strange, think they will have a much tougher sale if you will be forced to buy the wand/s seperatly.

Awww... now I'll never be able to play it.  Dial-up here, can't connect PS3 to the net to buy this game.

I really wanted more Jill. :(

Just friggin great. More hard drive space eaten up when it could have been on a disc. They could have at least done both.

I think the wand would sell a lot better if it was bundled with a game and a camera - at a good price.

    @4 Any "clean" reason?

@5 and 6 Yup, that is indeed pretty odd. Poll being online(if...) could skew the numbers...

Well I could get RE5 for 29.99 if I wanted to get it right now...

Also @4 don't you have any friends that could let you borrow their internets??

does that mean they wont integrate motion controls in the original game then, or could they patch it. it would probably be best to wait for games that are made for motion controls, although the NEW resident evil style may suit it.r4 on wii was supposed to be ok. as good as the motion control might be, i doubt it wil be a success. these periferals are often overlooked. a god of war 3 bundle would do it a huge favour

@5 not really, using both would equal double production costs and unnecessary licensing - plus it is not very likely either version will get huge sales to warrant both so plain DLC is fine by me :)

I'm glad they decided on DLC, as I recently bought RE5. But I imagine for some a retail release would be better! Just happy they offered DLC! :)

this is the best move cause most likely a hard copy would not sale with GoW droping that month.

@6 eating up space??  one of the best thing about PS3 is you can upgrade your harddrive. you know 120, 250, 300, 320, 500gb memory chips try investing into one.

@10 if you dont RE:5 by now then thats your probleem not Capcoms. if you did own RE:5 and sold it or traded it in then thats your lost.

I wonder if you need the RE5 full game in order to get this, i dont care for RE5 but i really want this AE version. Anyone know if this is a add-on or a seperate stand-alone downloadable game?

    • 2:39am GMT - November 11th, 2009

I still think the people who own RE5 should get it free.    Its not fair for people to pay more for an alternative ending.  I got an idea how bout the people who got the platnium tropyhy gets the DLC free?  And the people who didn't well...didn't

Finally, they release DLC worthy content for RE5. I might actually start playing this game again, just for the alternate edition co-op and motion controls.  : )
