Reeves defends European announcements

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) President David Reeves has gone on the record concerning Sony's oft-criticised lack of focus on European consumers, defending the company's stance by pointing out the advantages of being the last in line.
“People say, ‘Well, why do we always get things last? Why can’t we say things?’," he stated, "Well, I’ve said this many times before: sometimes it’s an advantage to be last in Europe, you know, when everything’s ironed out."
Reeves was content with the Leipzig press conference in which Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain and the announcement of a 160GB PlayStation 3 were considerable highlights, along with Singstar - this is Germany after all.
“This time, we do have things to say in the European [market]," he continued. "We have the music service, and we’re doing great things on SingStar and there’s more to come. These are global announcements."
“They [Sony bosses] recognize that the show’s in Europe, whether it’s in Leipzig, Cologne or London: we can do the announcements wherever. So they said to us in Tokyo, ‘Do you want to do it here?’ And we said, ‘Yeah, we’d love to do it here.’”
We'll be looking forward to a more Euro-centric approach to product reveals in the future then.

in my opinion i do think that Eu are last for everything yet for me it doesnt classify it a good thing at all. im from Eu and its annoying that you get the typical people with Qore and other stuff even rockband 2 for example.
we Eu in a way have rights, i understand what there trying to do like, they test stuff in the U.S side but personally i hate seeing eachtime the american players having more stuff than us eu's ?
its sorta annoying at times..

Oh c'mon, it's not all bad, we Europeans did get the Uncharted Trophies a good 10-20 minutes before anyone else hahah. It's allways been the same and will probably stay the same, even the games developed by British or European devolopers seem to go to NA first.

Reeves r such and idiot. He thinks its good to be last. Americans gets the best stuff and only then Sony sees Europeans. I don't need no Singstar, no 160gb PS3 as I already have one PS3. I want Qore, Betas, bigger weekly Store updates, Rock Band. Europeans deserve them all as we give u Sony biggest PS3 sales.

Well,i'd still prefer if Europe or PAL region as a whole would get services like Qore and the video store,i don't mind waiting another week for games, but i'd really like them to get these services out on a global scale and not only in America.

To be real with you guys, EU and US can have make accounts for each country so this is really nothing. We should go after japan together because that have games i never seen and a whole gang of stuff to do. EU you have some games on there that I've never seen before. So when updates come out just use your US account. But japan store is crazy with things.

I don't think I can really add to that other than the fact that we shouldn't need to set up separate accounts. Gaming is a global business, developers are more than capable of stitching in the appropriate framework for localizations from the start - if not then leave them in english. Even the Japanese games would be fine with subtitles. We all know this so why does some overpaid Sony puppet try to blindside us? BTW I believe the price differences were attributed to sales tax difference. Still doesn't look very good considering that Europe has been a strong Sony region since PSone days. Oh well another quality PR blunder from Sony - they oughta get trophies for it. LOL

It can be so frustrating though, because when the Dual Shock 3 came out, Japan had it before anyone else, even though people could import the EXACT same controller and use it on their consoles. All Sony had to do was put some of those controllers on a plane and ship them over to the US, but it took them months to do that, for some reason.
