Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has issued an official statement detailing North American hardware sales figures for the company’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable systems for the month of October.

The firm noted a particularly prosperous month, with the PlayStation brand generating a 39% increase in retail spending on a year-on-year basis. PS3 sales reached 120,000 during October, with sales jumping 192% over the last fortnight thanks to the release of the 40GB model, as touched on yesterday.

PSP also continued to perform strongly, with 286,000 units sold during the same period, generating a year-on-year increase of 120% thanks to the recent release of the PSP Slim and Lite edition.

“And with 24 first and third-party software titles being released this holiday season, such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of The Lions, as well as new spots for the wildly popular "Dude, get your own" campaign, the PSP will undoubtedly continue to gain momentum through the coming months”, the company stated.

I believe that the 360 sold 300 000+ during the same amount of time in October, or am I misinformed? If so, then this is not good for the PS brand. I really don't get ???

Why oh why is the PS3 not selling more?? Are people just plain stupid, or is it just me?

what ppl have to understand is that this is could have been much more because of the price drop and the 40 were not released for the whole month of october it was just the last couple weeks so expect novemeber sales to be even higher

these numbers are just for america... If you look globaly the ps3 is owning the Xbox. America is just a bunch of idiots.. That have no idea whats going on. Everyone in the world already has HDTV's in their homes and only 30% of americans only have it here.

You know its bad when I talked to some co-workers and they tell me whats the hype about HDTV I cant tell the difference.. As long as you have stupid people like this.. the Xbox and HD-dvd will sell here... Everyone in the world exept for america is moving on.... America is stuck in its own arrogance...

Nice! I'm glad to see the numbers picking up for Sony. This is the exact stuff that happened with the PS2. Next thing you know, everyone in the world will own one.

Dude, get your own - Hilarious.

    Universe of Entertainment - Epic.

Well, their adverts are now awesome! And the price is also awesome, and the games are also awesome and gets better (the price too, probably)! I just can't see anything wrong with it, or a reason to buy another console!

as much as i hate to admit it ecentre brings up a good point in that the 360 sold 180,000 more units BUT... no matter how many 360's get sold the PS3 will still get the exclusives that everybody wants. Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Little Big Planet, God Of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII. These games will never be on a MS console. If your a true gamer and don't want atleast 3 of those games then you need to see a shrink.

Wii and xbox360 trounced sony last month in the n.america, but it's been a great week this week for sony in n.america, why they have been thaking advantage of the fact the wii is nearly all out of stock, but never the less it's been there best week so far with a hundred thousand consoles sold OUTSTANDING for sony.

Last month the wii sold something 400,000 odd, xbox360 sold 300,000 odd, its still a big margin when you consider ps3 sold 120,000, in N,AMERICA, here's wheres it's won or lost.

The advertising should awaken all those who are sleeping on Sony. 399 should be a comfortable price for anyone. Theres no excuse for ps2 owners, and others in general not to jump on the ball.
