Sony: InFamous game length still undecided

Sony has moved to set the record straight in regards to the length of Sucker Punch’s upcoming open world adventure title, InFamous, following comments steaming from a live text interview with Eurogamer last week.

Speculation arose after Game Director Nate Fox responded to a reader question regarding whether or not long games were palatable in today’s climate of rising development costs, in which he said, “it seems to me that it's not about length, but about quality.” He then added that InFamous would place the highest value on quality.

As a result, readers assumed – erroneously - that the hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 outing would turn up a tad short in the game length department.

In an attempt to clear matters up, Sony told Eurogamer today, "inFamous is still in development at Sucker Punch," adding, "and the game's length is still to be determined."

InFamous is due out in Spring 2009.

"As a result, readers assumed – erroneously - that the hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 outing would turn up a tad short in the game length department." If readers really are this thick, there's no hope.

well i hope not, please please dont make it  short, make it as massive as possible, thats the main reason i like fallout3 n oblivion cause there big games.there`s nothing worse then a great story thats short, making u feel there should be more.

I wouldn't mind too much if the story was short IF the story changed as you play through the game to give you a choice in what you want to do next. That way you could play it again making different choices... sounds like I'm talking about Heavy Rain here though.

If the game is good enough to get people to want more then hey it  dont matter how long it is give it about 10 -15 hours then thats about as good as it can get. hey look at Gears Of War that game wasnt long look at all those who couldnt wait for part 2. so yeah i agree with him as long as the quality is good the length is not really a facter

i love campaigns but usually finish them rather quickly...i now play all games on the hardest level in order to stretch the gameplay...i hope that this game is somewhere between 12 - 15 hrs but i doubt it...probably be more of a heavenly sword length

Longer is always better for me.  When I finished R2, I felt cheated.  I can't remember finishing a game faster.  It felt incredibly short compared to RFOM.  Luckily the R2 online is worth the price alone.

I agree that quality is more important than quantity but for this type of game it has to be at the lowest 15 hours in my opinion Btw believe it or not im actually commenting from my cell phone right now, its pretty cool (just thought id mention it so people know it is possible with phones, and no in not boasting or anything)

"still to be determined" is not the same as "undecided", undecided means they're choosing whether to have it long or short, undetermined means they don't know yet if the final outcome of the story mode will be long or short, because it's still in the coding stage. your title is misleading.

Some games dont need length to be great. Look at Uncharted for example. That game is a perfect length. Its paced correctly, doesn't get repetitive, the story moves nicely. Games that are long suffer from problems, its a trade off. And honestly, as a college student with a girlfriend, I dont have time too give it all to 50 hour games anymore. But I still picked up Fallout 3 but that means no time for Eternal Sonata and countless hours on R2 online

Whether or not the readers assumed it erroneously is yet to be seen.

funny how sony games get bashed for length yet most xbox exclusives with 5-6hr single player (Gears) are praised, talk about double standard. Everyone is always jealous of the person on top.

In My Opinion: Its About Quality And Length.....Although There Are Good Games That Are Pretty Short Like Heavenly Sword Wich Was An Amazing And My Most Favorite Game Just To Short

@rocmanX i would never trust your jugement in games if a game trash because of its lenght ten you can never tell me what to buy and not to buy. Havenly Sward may had been short but it was far from being trash.

here's the thing though, Fallout 3 is technically a very very short game but the sidequest more then make up for the length of the game.  If they make the game short, then they need to increase the length by having side missions and a bunch of things to do.  If they do that to increase the games average length, then there is no problem.

FPS and 3PS games get away with 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 hours of gameplay.  This isn't an FPS, the average length for this game should be about 16 hours and that's at a low average.  I would think 20 hours would be a good start.

psn id: gingo... jus because he said quality was priority doesn't mean it has to be a terribly short game, i mean we can all pretty much assume it wont be more than 15 hrs but if it gets to the 10-12 hr area it will be doing well

I love these type of games, same with Prototype which I'm buying both of. Although Infamous reminds me quite closely to Heroes [which I love watching] and Prototype seems like a mix with that and Resident Evil.

i wouldnt mind if its a short story line. as long as there's plenty of stuff to do after uve finished + online. trophies and online allow developers to cut back on story sometimes. i wouldnt mind it this time.

@Denali2: Oh trust me, there were plenty of other things wrong with Heavenly Sword. The sole positive aspect of that game ( IMO ) were the production values, nothing else. The gameplay was so stale compared to GOW, DMC & NG. I was shocked coz the last Sony action/adventure game before HS was God of War 2!! (One of the greatest games of all time IMO) The cut scenes were nice to watch though. But if you like to pay $60 for a movie, to each his own
