Sony providing more support for peripheral makers

Sony plans to grow its peripheral licensing business by encouraging peripheral makers to make new products.

Third parties that enter into a licensing agreement with Sony will receive support documents to help them better design and create peripherals for use with the PSP, PS3, and PS2. Those who enter into this agreement will have the privilege of having the Sony “Official Licensed Product” logo on the packaging.

Sony is doing so with the hope that this will “further expand the PSP, PS3, and PS2 platforms.” Interested companies can go request a form to apply to be in the program on Sony’s website.

I have the same headset shown on the box and its really good, Giotek make it I think. Its good because the ear piece is bigger than usual and doesn't enter the ear, just sits outside it meaning you can wear it all night without it getting sore. the quality is very good too, I got mine for 20euro in GAME

I would like to see more peripheral makers follow in Sony's footsteps and make their products rechargable and have them connect with bluetooth.

So does this provide official backing for 3rd party products in terms of marketing? Or is this just an element of control in exchange for support from 3rd parties?

Its a nice idea, but only if 3rd parties think it is.

Umm, isnt this 'idea' a few years late ?

By all means, lets see as much pimping and extras as possible.

I personally hate the arched top of the PS3, i'll have a nice flat-top please someone.

How about a DS3 thats not $90AUD someone.

How about a case mod that accepts 2 extra HDDs, albeit 2.5" or 3.5" someone.
