Sony starts licensing for PSP2?

A tech website known as EETimes is claiming that Sony may have bought the licensing rights to a new graphics processor created by Imagination for use in a successor to the PlayStation Portable.

The report states that Imagination recently boasted it has licensed the firm’s "high-performance graphics processor core to a major international consumer electronics company", sparking rumors that Sony has acquired the rights to utilize the processor - dubbed the SGX55x - in the PSP2.

For those unware, Imagination has also made graphic processors for the highly successful iPhone, although its latest endeavour is likely to be decidedly more powerful than the one in Apple’s pocket-sized gadget wonder.

Of course, with no retail date, no confirmation and more than likely, no news on any of this planned to hit the mainstream media any time soon, we wouldn't hold our breath.

Well, that's not surprising. Companies start concepts and markups of their systems WAY before they come out. WOuldn't doubt they're working on a successor.

I wouldnt mind the PSP2, aslong as it uses a better WiFi standard, such as 802.11g or n or whatever the standard is by the time its launched, i hate b, its too slow, maybe better support for ad-hoc communictation, maybe a solid state hd, more memory onboard ie, uses i dunno a newer memory type, better security from Homebrew, BUT let us run Homebrew type stuff (i know confusing), better xmb and apps, maybe built in bluetooth, i dunno
