Square shoots down FF Versus XIII reports

Square-Enix has denied reports claiming that development of the company’s upcoming Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been put on hold in.
Speaking in a statement issued today, the publisher stated: "Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false.”
"The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."
This is in direct contradiction to yesterday’s story from Famitsu magazine, in which a translated article quoted director Tetsuya Nomura stating that the title had been put “on hold,” adding "the entire Versus team is helping to finish Final Fantasy XIII".
Both Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XIII are scheduled to make an appearance in video form at Square's invite-only press event in August, with rumours of a major showing planned for the Tokyo Games Show later this year.
Stay tuned.

This could go both ways, it being both good and bad. It's good that Verses isn't on hold but its bad because XIII isn't coming sooner than we expected. Still, good to know its actually in development with the lack of news about it >_<

You know, I'm starting to see why Sony has a blanket policy of not addressing rumors. It's just easier.

Good and bad news, really. Anyway, what is the difference between FF XIII and FF Versus XIII?

Makes alot of sense. Especially since the absolute ton of rumors started about sony in many differnt countries, in many different forms, in many languages about their many divisions.
It makes sense to ignore them but then they started to get heat so they were smart to turn to tthings like threespeach and the US blog to talk to their tempermental fans.

@emo-mercenary, These games are going to be completly different down to combat style, character design, music, and everything else. The only thing that will be the same is the world they are both created in. Plus XIII will have a female lead, which basically means that it will suck like all games with female leads. Not only that but the combat system looks reminiscent of XI and XII which sucked. Versus however is said to contain a combat style similar to Kingdom Hearts, which rocks. If you need more info look it up on thier site or just WIKI it.

You Sir, are an idiot. History lesson. Random battles in RPG's existed because back in the 8-bit days (and before, of course) they didn't have the technology to have deep role-play AND realtime battles. That's where the time-honored "menu-fighting" systems came from. Now they don't have to do that. NOW you can have the role-play aspect AND the action aspects in the same game! That's not "gay" (dumb word as an insult, BTW), that's progress. I'm not even going to touch your "female lead" BS. As far as I'm concerned, every FF game has a female lead because they keep rendering the male hero to look like a girl anyway, lol. Get over yourself.

@23,
Progress you say? I would take the FF VII "wanna be" real time battle over the "new" MMO battle system anyday. SquareEnix has changed the very fabric of RPG's through the years each time trying something new and incredible. However that's not to say that they can't make a mistake. The new battle system really feels like an MMO, if I wanted to play one of those I would. I want to play a deeply immersive story that only they know how to deliver. They need to "progress" more if they are going to keep changing the way they do battle. As for your "gay" comment, If you had a chance to read my post you will see no such language. And saying that all the main characters look like girls is probably just an infatuation with men that you have.

I agree with Sol110, Square Enix needs to stop trying to make a faux real time battle/menu battle system, instead they should stick with making it fully real time or fully menu battle. I love both, but when they try to put them together it just gets rediculous, I had a freind who was playing FFXII and I asked him why he was running around the enemy, he responded that of course he was trying to dodge, I had to break the news to him that moving in the new battle system was nothing more than for looks and that just standing still gave you the exact same outcome. He wondered why they even tried in the first place, I told him I'd been wondering the same thing for quite a while, if you want real time battles, make they real, if you want turn based, do it turn based, stop trying to make them both happen at the same time, FFVII was the best attempt and still works better than any of the newer fighting systems (sans for the upgrades/summons). To get back on topic, I am very happy to hear that FFXIII Vurses is back on track because I am definatly not going to be picking up FFXIII, and would have been disappointed if they were really putting the game that actually has potential, on hold.
