With consoles becoming more and more powerful, it seems logical that console owners should be able to share in the PC gaming experience by being able to play PC games on their systems. This long hoped for feature has now become a reality for PS3 owners following the release of StreamMyGame.com.
The software provided by this website is one that will convert the audio and video portions of the PC game and convert it into a "Game Stream." Once converted, the information will be sent over the user's home network to a second computer, PS3, or Linux-based device, to then be able to view as well as play the game with the StreamMyGame player.
StreamMyGame acts as a media server and is available to just about anybody with a PC running Windows XP or Vista, and will be compatible with all PC titles based on Microsoft's DirectX8, DirectX9 and DirectX10 (including the highly acclaimed Crysis). The resolutions are also scalable all the way up to "Super HDTV" (3200 x 2400).
"Playing the latest PC game on the PS3 is now a reality at HD resolution and fast frame-rates," commented CEO Richard Faria.
"I have a PS3 in my living room and PC in my office and my two kids both have old PCs in their bedrooms. Now we can play games anywhere around the home. StreamMyGame's technology networks the power of a main PC so it can be used to play high end games on other PCs, PS3s and Linux devices."
Later this spring, StreamMyGame will be allowing users to play their games over broadband networks that are "sufficiently capable" that would allow their PC games to be available to them over "Remote Play." This feature adds yet another notch on the PS3’s exclusive features, which other systems just aren't capable of producing.

very very nice
the things that will surface becasue of this technology will be unbelievable
Awesome, who'd a thunk.
this is awesome
What actually process's the video. The computer graphics card still? If thats how it works, then theres no point. Cause i bought my ps3 to avoid upgrading my pc.
HMMM, if you set your video settings at max on your PC,and your PC can't handle the settings will the PS3 still play it at MAX steeings?
So much for xbox 360 exclusives !
its seems that yes your computer needs to be able to play the game at high resolutions, so graphics card is a plus
Take it to the Bank!
This is great. I might just play a PC game or two now
Here is a link to the web site http://streammygame.com
To get good specs from the PC, it has to be maxed out. But, if you happen to have an incredible PC rig, then this will be awesome for you, and your friends! It would be awesome if you could host a LAN party, and your frinds could just come over and play whatever. I'd love to play Gears of War on my PS3, I've been wanting to check that out.
so we can play now Gears of War on our PS3?. or not.
so can i play footy manager from my pc to my playstation?
Actually I might just take my PS3 up to the local Coffee shop, they have a gaming setup. I'll get the guy to installt he program and I will stream the game, I guess.
LOL the ps3 library just got bigger.. by a million times XD
Heck.. we could play halo if we wanted to.. although personally i think its a boring game.. but i might rig it up to play some empire at war :p
hahaah gears of war pc on the ps3 gears of war now anounced for ps3 trhow internet yay.
WOW beat that xbox PS3 rules
Most new PC games require more horsepower than PS3 has, and future games will require even more while PS3 stays the same. It is unclear from the blurb (when did PSU start copy-paste press releases?) how exactly this works, but I'm sure the end result is inferior to the original product in either frame rate or graphics quality.
In any case, I don't see the point of this. If I have a PC which can play a game, why would I want to play it on my PS3? I specifically bought a PS3 so I wouldn't have to upgrade every two years to play the latest games.
Sounds like snake oil to me.
that's so cool, to bad my pc sucks, and I can't get my pc to recognise any unknown devices (my ps3). so unless you can do the game in your ps3 it won't help me.
It works by streaming video to the PS3, the only thing the PS3 has to render is the video. The PC does most of the work.
You need linux installed also.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeBtgPeul3Y
that's insane. the ps3 library just expanded exponentially.
Über cool! :D
would you have to have linux installed on your ps3 to make this work?
psn id: gingo.... this is actually really impressive i'll see if i can get Doom 3 working because i've always wanted to try that with a controller but wasn't buying an xbox just to do that
or am i completely off and you still have to use keyboard and mouse??
Wats a super HDTV?? I know wat full 1080p hd's are but wat de funk are super hdtvs.
Euhm, I hate to be the cynical one but streaming introduces lag (especially over a wireless link). Which means that the player's input could be received too late. ie. (LCD-)TV lag with games like Guitar Hero, but worse.
Just try and play a fast-paced PSOne game over Remote Play and you'll notice the problem with streaming lag.
All the processing seems to be done on the PC you are streaming from. The PS3 just receives the video and audio. How does the controllers work?
Awsome now there are no exclusives!
Simply amazing!!
The ps3 keeps getting better and better
the stupid thing is you cant actually physically play the game with you ps3 like with the controller it just means you can steam the image to your ps3 and view it on a big t.v so to speak in hd
I guess this means that the performance will be dependant of the power of your PC. Good idea. If this also includes the usb mouse and keyboard support then we have a winner.
@daz
Don't bother, if you feed it, it will never go away. let them feel content in thinking that the rest of the world doesn't exist.
it's great newssssssssss.......... i can't believe it it's...... incredible
if this is true then this could eliminate exclusives for MS I wonder would they allow this but I too dont see the point of buying a game on the PC just to play it on your PS3, why not just play it on your PC? n e ways good try in all but unless theres a way you can fully download the game to your PS3 HDD im not interested.
the ps3 is king nobody can deny that now the amount of games on the system just opened up dramatically now all sony got to do is let the people around the world know about this and it will be the end of the war as we know it
This has Sony support? People are starting to make too much software that runs on the PS3 for my taste. I can see Virus coming...
Mannnnnnnnnn, i brought my PS3 on time :)
but through streaming does this mean games will have more chance to lagg becuz some videos take ages to stream.
very cool
It is just another fraps
It alows you to stream video to any computer in the network say for watching people play like at LAN competition.
You can play your fave PC game in bed without having to move your pc etc.
It is very buggy atm i cant get it to work properly for reasons someone mentioned, LAG . Even if i set it to the lowest compression and lowest resolution i still cannot login on my ps through the frefox web browser, it just ends up timing out, soon as i disconnect the server its ok.
Want to know how it works?
Click the link in the article :)
So can the PS3 play Crysis then? Shoot I would try lol.
I have seen a video on Youtube with a guy explaining how to set this up and then he played Crysis on his PS3!
Firstly you need to install LINUX on your PS3 and he was also using a wireless keyboard and mouse to play the game. So, in the future we could possibly play games exclusive to Microsoft before X360 even gets them!!! And now we could play Bioshock and Mass Effect on our PS3! Wonder if they'll implement online gaming as well in the near future?? So much more possibilities now.
wicked news. all you xbots on this site, go cry to ur buddy bill. and also tell him that he should pull out of the console war, and just join sony and their affiliates and produce PS3 and PSP games. he'd prolly make way more money that way.
And there it is...that no games comment again...well if thats the only argument still out there then the last laugh is the ps3 owners.
I read the article but i still dont believe it, can this be possible. I cant wait to see the look in my xbot friends face when im playing Halo on my PS3
I'm curious as to what does the actual processing? I know the PC converts it but does the PS3 render everything? If so, he!!o Crysis.
C'mon guys, can we get rid of the he!! ban? We can't even type he!!o.
well im still not going to invest 1000 euros in my pc, i prefer saving this to invest in my ps3, plus the only pc game that i would like to play is crysis but like the game sold bad maybe crysis will be ported to ps3, well i hope so, if not we still have kill zone 2 to look forward to
PC gaming has moved past "HD" ages ago so Im not sure what the point of this product is. I've been playing PC games on my HP L3065 display at a native resolution of 2560 x 1600 for the past two years.... That's twice as many pixels as offered by 1080p. To run it you just need a 8800GT which doesnt cost too much. I'm using an 8800 Ultra with room for another but so far Ive not needed the other card in SLI
The new SLI Mobos coming through can hold 3 x 8800Gxx cards or the new 9800GTX. Better still 2 x HD3870X2's for four GPU's and 4GB of DDR4 video memory. My question is why would I want to use my PS3 to do the rendering? It has a GPU marginaly better than a 7600 and has just 512Mb memory shared with the system. I dont understand the benefit.
"With consoles becoming more and more powerful, it seems logical that console owners should be able to share in the PC gaming experience by being able to play PC games on their systems." um, wtf? you cant play games through any system, you can stream the video and sound and thats as far as it goes, you still need to spend a shiz load on a nice PC to play any new games.
and why dont you just hook up your PC to the TV with a few cables, i'd imagen that it would be much easier then setting up a network, just to stream sound and video.
Only use i see for this is, if you happen to have a really good computer, a big house, and you just happen to want to play your games in your living room.
Maybe they are really just using the PS3 to provide the HDMI port to the TV screen - IE: the PS3 doesnt do the game processing or graphics rendering but rather passes through the signal via its HDMI port and maybe helps out with some simple scaling. I cant see any more use for the PS3 than that.
