UK retailers admit struggle to cope with GTA IV demand

A number of the United Kingdom’s biggest retailers have conceded that they will likely to struggle to meet demand for the launch of Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV on April 29.

Consumers who have pre-ordered the limited edition version of the upcoming crime romp are still promised that their orders will arrive on day on; however, those who wish to procure a copy of the standard release may not receive their copies on launch day.

GAME commented on its website: "We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April," adding, "we are currently sold out of this item. All orders will be dispatched on a first come, first served basis."

Elsewhere, Gamestation stated, "due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version."

Due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, GTA IV is expected to be one of the year’s biggest selling titles on any format, with some analysts predicting sales of six million in its first week alone.

    Mwahaha my 4 months summer holidays start then think ill be going into town before the shops open :D I aint preordering I hate the idea of it.

    i've never had to order GTA ever and i dont on ordering now..

    I'm getting my copy in HMV(never sell out)

    also they dont mention if its 360,ps3 or both..

    im jus gonna camp outside for the whole night, be sure to get it like that. If im still not sucsessful il just mug sum1 for it lol. seems suitable if its GTA.

    i have mine pre-ordered since like august of last year, i've been waiting ssoooo long for this damn game; i'll be sure to have my copy waiting for me. my ps3 is going to hate me!!! lol

    I guess if some European gamers want to gurantee that they get a copy of GTA4 on release day, they probably should import an American verison or something.

     

    I've had my Special Edition copy of GTA4 pre-ordered since LAST JULY before the game even got delayed. It seems like I've been waiting forever. And those EA bastards had better not have any affect on GTA4 being delayed if they buy Take 2.

    No, this is not "marketing crap"!  Several retailers on their own websites are claiming that they are no longer taking pre-orders.  This game will be huge.

    Well hopefully i will still get my copy from play.com, I preordered it a few weeks ago

     

    People who stiil don't plan to preorder even after this warning are idiots..you can't just go to midnight openings for games like this..those are for the people WHO DO PREORDER to collect earlier !!

     

    Also I checked on Play.com it is only the PS3 copy that has shortages, as the message is only on the PS3 copy's page

    @yungder - obviously you type before you think as i have bought every GTA game from hmv, grafton st DUBLIN since vice city on launch day.

    so check where i'm from before you try your uk link,

    btw shops/companies such as hmv will say to pre-order regardless of how many copies there getting for the fact of your guaranteed to purchase the game there instead..so cope on will ya

    DOES ANYBODY want to IMPORT GTA4 from Australia??

     

    We have a very limited and rare collector's edition here....it will be cut and edited for your under 18 viewing pleasure!

    No other continent will be getting this, and did I mention that it cost more than 60 pounds!!!

    No need to pre-order, there'll be a plethora in-stock!!!

    I'm predicting close to GTA3 style shortages. I remember having to search for nearly 2 months before I could score my copy from a walmart over 4 towns and 30 miles away.
