Leading multiplayer and online gaming technology provider GameSpy has announced a licensing deal with Epic Games to incorporate its technology into Unreal Tournament 3.
The immensely popular first-person shooter will include multiplayer matchmaking, in-game and out-of-game messaging, deep player statistics, Voice over IP (VoIP) communication and a robust leaderboard and ranking system.
It follows a recent announcement between GameSpy and Epic Games that saw GameSpy's online technology incorporated into Unreal Engine 3.
“GameSpy is excited to expand our existing relationship with Epic Games and align ourselves with Unreal Tournament 3,” said Jamie Berger, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products and Technology for IGN Entertainment.
“As our technology continues to expand and evolve with next-generation consoles, we will continue to work with developers to provide an ease and expertise when it comes to online gaming technology.”
“Partnering with GameSpy for the second time and expanding on our IPP relationship furthers our commitment to including the highest level of online technology into our video games,” said Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, Inc.
“Unreal Tournament 3 is a leader in online gaming, and we will continue to push boundaries and technology to develop a game that satisfies the high expectations of our franchise fans.”
The multiplayer technology will feature on both the PC and PS3 version of the game, in which players assume the role of a futuristic warrior engaged in contests of intense warfare against dedicated and skilled opponents.

Tegesh, First what? bell end? You was first in the que for "oh look at me" you mean?
Take it you have no family or frends then.!
UT3 are always good for a blast but seem a bit samey.
this is exactly what im looking for in and out of game messaging and all the other stuff listed. there;s been a lot of good online games with no messaging and it has prevented having good clan systems and playing with friends. TY!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate when they decide to go with gamespy because when you create a login to play the game, it also makes you a gamespy.com login. I already had a fileplanet login before I got BF2 a long time ago, and had no idea that making an account for BF2 would create a new gamespy id/account. Had I known I would have just used my normal login for gamespy/fileplanet.
Hopefully I can just login to UT3 with my BF2 username and pw, but I doubt it. They'll probably make me create YET ANOTHER gamespy ID.
That all seems great but after the depth of COD4 online I'm not so sure...
I wonder how well this will be incorporated and whether or not it will be carried over to other games. How many games are being supported by gamespy?
psn id: gingo... these features that are added are standard now but they make the multiplayer experience so much more enjoyable
The UT3 demo was not as fun as the older games. I guess I'll have to learn to play it this way. Still, after all the love I had for UT2003/4, I have to buy this.
notice they dont mention the 360 version...
tegesy is so gonna get flaimed
Nice to see good online support. im just thrilled about what mark said a few eeks ago. UT3 looks better than Gears of War.
Cool, may be they really would give us cross platform multi player down the road then.
well it sounds like it is gonna have a better lobby system than COD4,but gameplay is gonna be a tough one to take from COD4.
P.S. tegesh your gay
I recently played the original UT and belive me it was fun revisiting the game that started it all. I really hope the online support is perfect on the ps3 n that the Gamespy servers will b up to the task.
