Christophe Balestra, Vice President of Naughty Dog, has confirmed that the company has begun development of a sequel to its critically acclaimed PlayStation 3 title, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
According to website Jeuxfrance.com, Balestra confirmed the news during an interview with LCI, though neglected to go into details. This does, however, confirm earlier reports that the company had always intended on developing the action/adventure into a fully-fledged series, rather than a stand-alone outing.
A PS3 exclusive, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune casts players in the role of treasure hunter Nathan Drake, as he attempts to uncover the mysterious lost treasure of El Dorado. His search brings him to a seemingly deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where he is soon forced to defend himself against legions of ruthless mercenaries and pirates.
Stay tuned for more information on the highly anticipated sequel as we get it.

Nice. Uncharted is undoubtedly my fav PS3 game right now.
@ChrisandmyPS3
I don't see a next gen Jak coming anytime soon. Look at Naughty Dogs patterns:
PS1 - Crash Bandicoot
PS2 - Abandon the Bandicoot and go for Jak & Dakter
PS3 - Abandon Jak and go for Drake. -

Prior to playing Uncharted, I really wanted a PS3 Jak game, and hoped that they'd do that before an Uncharted sequel. Since playing Uncharted, I still really want a Jak game, but am also extremely happy that there will be another Uncharted!

yes! if uncharted looks this good, imagine how good the sequel will look! also they can fix the few minor problems the game had to make it perfect.

Oh man! I cannot wait to see this one. I wonder if the game is going to have a different setting than the jungle? Could he be searching for atlantis? Explore Caves? Cross mountains? Or do something I always wanted to see a story do again. Find and unexplore a city below an already exisiting one.

@ ivarrin: read the 3rd paragraph of the article properly, it only describes what the first game is about. Prior to that paragraph, it tells us no details of the sequel have been discussed!
Anyways, I'm anticipating the next installment as well. I don't expect this game to be release until sometime mid-next year, but that's cool as long as we get the same quality of the first one. Also, I hope the storyline will be longer and that there is an online option for some reason!?! This should be another great product!
Wonder how it would compare to TR:U???

As I understood it, Jak was a 3 game trillogy after which the story pretty much ended. Granted they could state a new story arch but people are really enjoying Uncharted, so let them continue on I say. If you can ride the wave of excitment to firmly lock in a new francaise with the public concsious then it's wise to do so when you can rather than falling back on old acheivements which should be reserved for trying to regain popularity.

i have a strong feeling co-op will be invovled and mutliplayer as well for online support with this home thing into play theres going to be a lot that Naughty dog can accomplish in these coming years of development. With experience on the PS3 under their belt i can't see it being nothing but better the next time around. They should most definetly stick to the same formula they have going for themselves.
