Volition: Sony pushing devs for exclusive trophies

Dan Sutton, Associate Producer on Volition’s upcoming Saints Row 2, has said that Sony is pushing developers to include unique PlayStation 3 trophies in games that aren’t simply carbon copies of the Xbox 360’s achievements system.

"I think Sony is trying to push for unique," said Sutton, during an interview with Videogamer.com. "They don't want them to be mimicked, they want to have special achievements in their version. So that's one thing they're pushing on that, and they're saying that if you're developing something on PS3 we want you to have exclusives for us."

Sutton also confirmed that Volition’s forthcoming Saints Row 2 would feature unique Trophies and Achievements for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, respectively.

"I'm sure there will probably be some that overlap, just because there are some fun achievements that you want to do on both, but yeah. It's a different system too. There's like gold, silver, platinum type trophies too, so there's going to be top level achievements. I guess you have that on Xbox too, with 60 point ones as opposed to 20 point ones. Yeah, there'll definitely be different achievements for both,” he added.

Saints Row 2 is due out later this year.

    I don't mind trohies and achivements being the same. Also i don't want Sony to push developers around the same way microsoft do...

    If the PS3 has "exclusive trophies" that means the 360 also have it... Rofl

    As long as there is trophies thats cool. We don't need to get into exclusive trophy battles now.

    PUSH SONY PUSH!!!!!! push with all your might. dont let microsoft get another do-dat. but dont push too hard though we dont want to lose SR altogether.hehehe. i rekon different platforms should have there own trophies but if it cant be done i wouldnt mind to much.

    Does exclusive trophies matter?  Man, Sony seems so out-of-touch at times.  LOTS of times.

    Im pretty sure that both Volition and Sony can see the benefit of unique trophies. If they really manage to get exclusive unique trophies / achivements - then that would truly be a competative advantage! - I think that Sony have been playing nice a bit to long, they are sitting with a stable and innovative console. Dont see any reason why they should´nt release the hounds and let the world know that. Business is not a question of playing nice ;-)

    i like for the fact they have exclusive achievments (trophies)... it just makes it more enjoyable to have my own ps3 trophies without havng to get the same exact ones... its a great advantage for the ps3 and sony to have exclusive tropyies... and i for one will get this for that and becouse it should be a great game (so far).

    Sony need to push for other things. Trohies are nice, but they really sould be pushing to get these " first party" games out thatt all have been delayed. Just the game along is great for me. Plus what does the trophies go for???? with micro achivements points they can use the points to buy things from their online store. Its like going on psn and buy things with your points.

    i want sony to push!!! and the defos 1 game they have to get patched with trophys is METAL GEAR SOLID 4!!! that is the only real exclusive that sony have and its the best game plzzz vring us mgs4 trophys!!!!

    Awesome! Now that it's confirmed SR2 will have trophies I'll be getting this game for the PS3 rather than the 360.

    I'm happy to see them pushing for this.  like trophy's are that hard to put into games, pfft.  compared to what programmers go through making characters move and everything else, putting trophies in probably takes very little time, not long at all.  I also agree that since the game is for both, they should have unique trophies, it's kind of stupid if all the trophies and achievments are the same.

    achievements on the 360 are a great way to expand the games, it was a big plus point (although small) when i was playing on my 360 before swiching to a ps3. look forward to the trophies system!
