Sony America’s Peter Dille has revealed that the format holder has already started churning out development kits for its motion-sensing ‘wand’ to third party developers, saying companies “couldn't be more excited" about the new tech.
"We're a little bit past the research phase," said Dille, during an interview with Gamespot. “We're having conversations with the third-party community. The dev kits have started to go out to the third parties as well. They're working on the tech. They couldn't be more excited about it."
Sony previewed the new peripheral during its E3 press conference on Tuesday, though it remains unknown as to when the device will hit retailers.

When I first saw this concept, I was pretty excited about it for many reasons. But now that I think about it, I am wondering how it could be used as anything more than a gimmick without an analog stick for movement of the character. I understand you can move around your room and it will detect your movements, but that really doesn't transfer into large dungeons or football fields well, does it?

There's no analog stick?? Could someone confirm that?
@WhiplashCC: There is no problem with a football field, you just point to where you want to go. However there should be at least 1 analog stick, if not then my interest in the controller has gone right /

@#5
I was thinking the same thing. How are we supposed to move, Same with microsofts milo... Well actually now that I think about it, at E3 Sony did say it was a prototype controller. So hopefully they add analogs on there, and it better have viberation

Is there a maximum to how much I can type because I kept editing my previous post but when it said changes saved it keeps going back to the original.
What I was going to say was: At the end of the first demo when he goes into first person mode, in order to move the tank he clicks/moves something near the monitor - probably a dualshock 3. Im certain in the final product there will be a convenient way to move, such as by an analog stick.

To the two people before me that don't know if there is an analog stick, all I have to say is you are both stupid. Is this why people don't remember there are 50 states, or 13 original colonies, or even the first president of the united states. If you listened to the press conference when they explained they device he said that the guy was scrolling stuff with the joy stick. Don't just go out and say your not geting one cause you assume there is no joystick. Why in the heck would you think that they didn't add one on the controller. Listen people, dang...... SO YES THERE IS A JOYSTICK just watch the press conference

I hope they make some proper games for this, not just Nathan Drake at the Olpympics or Kratos Racing, actual games, it gives devs the oppurtunity to realise loads of ideas.
Can't wait to see what this controler brings, as long as it's a reasonable price.

As much as I think that thing is cool, I don't think I'll get that because the room I have my PS3 in isn't big enough to be having fake sword fights. I'd have to do some rearranging I guess. Also, what happens if you step out of the PS Eye field of vision? Still, I'm happy to see they are getting developers for this thing. I was afraid they would just make this to say they have it and wouldn't put out any decent games for it. The PS Eye is cool and all, but it doesn't really have any games that just wow me to the point I want to buy one. This could change that. I'd personally like to see an artist studio program for this motion stick thing where you could paint, draw, and even sculpt. I was really bummed out they canceled the Bob Ross game. I think it's time to bring it back so I can paint some happy little trees O:) Happy painting and God Bless, my friends.

I just hope that Sony treats this "wand" exactly like the regular dualshock 3. Even though i doubt they will do this but they should at least consider putting this "wand" in every ps3 as a standard controller along with the dualshock. I'm looking forward to this controller and hopefully it's compatible with already existing games, like Little Big Planet.

If this (or Natal ,well Natal doesnt have controller so its doomed from the word go) doesnt have a analogue stick in some of the wands then it will be only useful for gimmicky casual games .
The PS Eye can track your movement but only as long as you dont exit the camera field so you cant move in an open world that way .Same with Natal .So ,you need an analogue stick .
In the patent of Sony there was analogue sticks in the wands so hopefully the presentation wands were only prototypes and the final ones will have analogue sticks .

So wait, as I understand the source article, the Motion plus for the Wii makes it sense 6 degrees of motion? so the Sixaxis was superior to the waggle wand after all? which means sony didnt copy them to begin with like everyone said? (you know despite the fact that the announce ment of both controllers were only like 5 days apart and sony couldn't have cobbled up a superior controller in that short a time...) AMAZING! WOW.
But yeah I'm thinking we'll see more practical uses for the Sony MoCo before Brand X ever gets a decent game out. if anyone here has played Lifeline on PS2 you know how twitch voice control can be, add in 3d sensor bars and you have a huge opportunity for fail and suffering. Why else would their demonstration be so simplistic and filled with faked videos like the racing and fighting game meanwhile Sony's demonstration seemed spot on with plenty more real time applications of the technology.

I don't like the name "wand". It sounds like something the tooth fairy uses. I think they should call it the Stick.

The sad thing is that even though they were deving this in 2005, they showed it as a reaction to Microsoft's rumored (at the time) motion controller.

That is my consurn aswell. They should add those sticks to the dualshock, one on each side of the controller, these sides could be separeted when wanted or joined again with a simple attach system, so de controle could work as a wii-like controller but with anolog sticks or as a dual shock controller.

I guess I have to repeat myself.... people actually don't listen to me or the press conferance... How do you think he moved around in the space when using the sword.... hmmm maybee a joystick built into the prototype... and not only that but the guy actually said during the display that the guys was scrolling through options with the joy stick..... come on people freakin listen. This is exactly why people don't remember theres 50 states, 13 colonys, that the three ships that the pilgrims first tavelled over on were the nina the pinta and the santa maria, that they landed at plymith rock, or the freakin first president of the united states, cause you dont ever listen dang..

no needs for an analog stick when it recognizes depth. but it seems there needs a good amount of work on it until it is released since the tech demo was a bit flawed from what i saw. great concept. could be better than xbox natal only if they get it right. if not its just going to go down as a failed wii impression. if done properly it will be a good (not great) mixture of the wii's gameplay and natal's concept

Project Natal is going to be the future, the "Wand" is just a glorified Wiimote which is already outdated tech.

This will be sixaxis2.0 I feel like MicroSoft force Sony to release this information. And all I can say is thanks you so much.Because they have to release more and more info now. They was probably waitin until 2010 E3 so show this but Microsoft release Project Natal.I would love to see a MW game comes to the PS3 using this controller.MW3 will never come out just for the PS3 because that will be kind of messed up.IW will lose alot of respect because 360 owners would want to play Mordern Warefare 3 .But that game is years away because the 720 will be coming to 2010 E3 in my opinion.
