Summary
Warhawk is an amazing multiplayer experience. Almost everything is spot on, and players will have a lot of fun taking on different roles and trying out different tactics to reach their objectives. This title is a must-have for PS3 owners.
We like
- Simplistic menus and descriptions will help anyone become a server host and ranked pilot.
- There's a ton of ranks, ribbons and medals to earn.
- Graphics are beautifully enticing.
We dislike
- Steep learning curve without documentation or tutorials.
- Only works on one PSN account if you download it.

(continued from previous page) ...at will instead of being stuck with it as your only way to navigate a badass Warhawk or vehicle into combat.
At the end of the match, you're given a full performance and statistics chart on your actions in the battlefield. If you happen to be playing a ranked match, the points for the actions you did will add up and allow you to be promoted in rank. This will also let you receive literally hundreds of medals and ribbons such as killing enemies at a specific spot, defending the base, or even pulling off a nice number of kills to ground troops with a Warhawk. All in all there are a minimum of twenty ranks that players can advance to, starting at recruit and moving all the way up to General (I’m currently a Colonel thanks to the beta). Gaining the first few promotions are easy, but with time, the requirements get tougher, making it much more difficult to advance in rank.

Not only do the ranks allow you to claim bragging rights, but also they can be used to unlock new skins for your character model. Also, depending on how a server is set up, ranks can restrict players from servers where they'd easily blow away less skilled warriors, since you have to meet that player ranking or lower to be eligible to enter a room. However, there was one noticeable glitch in the ranking system; on random occasions, the game appears to lose track of the players progress, demoting them back to a recruit, prompting you to reload your profile to continue where you left off. Frustrating to say the least after plodding through several hours of hard work.
The only other possible downside to Warhawk is the fact that for a beginner, the learning curve is not easy to master. The game comes with no tutorials or any introductory measures for Warhawk. As a result, even if players attempt to learn through a local area network game, most players will have a hard time trying to figure out how to manoeuvre a certain vehicle, and even basics such as how to shoot and what not. Warhawk, possibly through future patches, can definitely become more newcomers friendly through the inclusion of an observer mode, so newcomers can choose to be a spectator on matches and observe specifically in detail what buttons a player presses (possibly a God of War type fade in and fade out scheme on screen) at specific moments in time. Such an inclusion will not only greatly decrease the learning curve, but also allow for more stimulated rather than frustrated players in an all-encompassing environment.
As for the technicality of Warhawk’s servers, creating your servers to host games or clan matches is fairly easy with Warhawk's extended customisable options. Players can decide if their server will simply be a player server for non-ranked games, ranked dedicated if they want to play on their server but not participate in such ranked games, or just plain dedicated if they want to host but not play non-ranked games. With these features, the strong customisation options apparent not only in gameplay but server aspects as well, allows players to set everything from passwords for clan practices to friendly fire damage and spawn delays, and save these settings as presets. Furthermore, hosts can have their games up and running the way they want in a matter of minutes, which is pretty impressive right out of the box without any significant or massive adjustments for the PSN.
The magnificent sound in Warhawk truly adds to the euphony of the title. Often, you will find yourself using sound to trace where a specific attack came from. For instance, if it's the crackle of electricity or the whoosh of a flamethrower, you have an idea of what it is and who could've been firing it. The explosions are unbelievably threatening (in a good way) and the vehicles sound incredibly and realistically powerful and intense. Bullets whiz by; explosions feel as if they actually happened in your backyard (or in a nearby parking lot if you live in a complex). Warhawk would have been supremely hurt if it didn’t have a gripping soundtrack to go along with the visual feast for the eyes, and background ... (continued on next page)

not a 9.5 an 8 is more accurate. To be honest Im waiting for our 9+ game , Ive been waiting a year now...ALL I FREAKIN WANT IS ONE GAME TO LIVE UP TO THE BS HYPE SONY keeps putting out. so frustrated... especially since I played bioshock at a buddies house! where is our GOW and Bioshock?? I still believe in SONY but man make it happen already and quit hyping the mediocre games!! anyone else with me??

Well... GOW came out a year after the Xbox 360 had been out and Bioshock is a good two years. So if you wait for Uncharted then there is your first PS3 title and I am sure you will find your Bioshock in the next year. Actually Bioshock is coming to the PS3 in Spring so no need to worry about that.

@NoUseMercenary- thank you for that perspective, your absolutly right, I do believe SONY will get there and are very close but man I thought they were gonna be there by now, Ill have to keep waiting and I didnt know that about BIoshock in the spring but am glad to hear it. As long as its at least as good as the Hexbox's version -unfortunatly so many cross platform games have not been....cough..Madden,TC Vegas, cough cough....

i agree with most of what the reviewer says, but my biggest complaint about the game is the length of time required in order to be up to par with the quality of players out there... As with most games with online play (well, all FPS and 3rd person shooters), your performance will suck (as in my case) unless you invest a massive number of hours in the game. Added to that, games like Warhawk have beta testers where they have already a 3-month advance in experience when the game ships out...
Instead of having the option to filter the servers with a minimum ranking to yours, Warhawk should have the opposite, meaning the option to filter the servers with ranking not higher than yours....

solid game but the the ground weapons are TERRIBLE! you can't even aim unless you have a sniper rifle! WTF??? there is no skill or talent in the ground weapons at all. the warhawks and tanks and jeeps are fine though. whoever designed the stupid aiming system should be fired. how can you beta a game and come away without changing that is beyond me! all the beta testers should not be allowed to own this game for not demanding the aiming system be changed. 3rd person is fine...just let me zoom or aim or something....don't just put a dot on the middle of the screen and have auto-aim! pointless i tell ya

This is game a killer app for Sonys online games. Fully entertaining. I really dont know what kind of killer game youall looking for. Bioshock is not an MS first party title either so it might come on the PS3 later on. Haze is coming and so is Unreal III.

i was not going to buy this game originally because it was online only. However, i decided to give it a try because it looked so incredible and i must say i am impressed with this game. it does not matter that it's only a multiplayer game. To me, if it's fun it's worht it and this game definitely is. Go pick it up today if you don't already have it.

i couldnt wait for the bluetooth retial so i downloaded it today, almost on a whim through the gayest am television id ever seen. and god damn this game does not dissapoint, sometimes its so involving your almost cant seem to function because so much is going down around you. probably the most amazing game i ever played.
I put it on after a quick game on graw2 and it was so rediculous how bad that game seemed - even though i like it. This is what the ps3 is all about. and its only just got started! yeah!!!!

9.5 is what this game deserves. Great Review! I urge everyone to give it a go. If you like multiplayer, quit whatever game you are playing right now and get into Warhawk. If you don't like multiplayer... give it a try anyway because this is THE BEST ONE by far! Nothing else is close. You truly feel like you're a part of a huge, strategic battle with limitless options. I advise taking advantage of the offline split screen to become familiar with the controls, levels, and weapons. Online can be tough for some, but this is the first game I've played where you can have fun even when your a noob because the options are limitless and the worlds are massive. Creativity plays a bigger role here than ever before in a death-match game. Some are complaining about limited levels. Not me. Try saying that once you've taken the time to master each one of them. The levels are huge and very well suited for game-play. Each level is a gem. More will come as add-ons. In short, Warhawk is the hottest game at the moment and I expect before long "everyone and their mom" will know it.

I think the game is really great in terms of FUN gameplay, you know I find myself laughing even when I'm kickin A** and then all of a sudden BLAM! I finally get knocked off my perch! But, there are a few things that would have made it a little better. I won't rehash all the problems everyone else has already mentioned (And you all know what I mean!) but through patches here and there I'm sure they can make it perfect. What I wanted to know is, do you guys think they'll eventually have new downloadable content? Maps, vehicles etc? I can see a few things they could add in time. But overall definitely worth every penny (And I'm a SOCOM fanatic, I KNOW, I KNOW!)LOL. This game is fun where SOCOM and it's players are way more serious! This game is more laid back in that respect. Well, I've blabbered on long enough, take care all!

i gave it a 3.0 this game should not of gone live, its still in beta form. heres my reasons why: The game freezes for no reason, the ranking system is broken, you do the awards it says you need and it wont give you the rank, you log in 1 day and ur a recruit next day back to ur normal rank and then later on back to a recruit. the ranked server system is by far the worst iv ever seen, decated ranked servers... if you host a ranked game you cant play in it, how bull is that. KS'ing is by far the worst part of this game, you can be fighting ppl and then someone shoots a random shot and gets the final hit and in turn gets the points for it. the points need to be by % based dmg. WTF is wrong w/ these beta testers, did they not give them any info at all?

Damn this game is ADDICTING!!! Been going to bed late because of this (YAWN). Awsome game and extremely fun to play. Finally got my Jabra headset to work!! with the headset, it makes this game one better than it is, especially if you chat with ppl who are working together and not saying stupid things & making obnoxious noises. MUST HAVE 4 PS3!!!!!

This game is an 8.0
No way is this a 9.0 that's reserved for games of God of War and the like. I'm being realistic and would have given it a 8.4 if it wasnt for the point system which is stupidly crafted.and as Mecha_Daddy has just pointed out we would have thought that single player playability has to be considered so I'm discounting my score to a 8.0.
