WipEout HD development stunted by "specific technical problem"

SCE Studios Liverpool have encountered a "specific technical problem" that has stunted the development of futuristic racer WipEout HD.

"There is a specific technical problem with WipEout that we have to solve. I can't go into details but it is a really, really tricky technical problem that no region has been able to solve at the moment," Sony Europe boss David Reeves informed Eurogamer when they inquired about the game's progress at this year's E3.

"I think it will come out before the end of the year but it is something that was just very difficult to get to grips with," Reeves concluded.

What could this technical issue be? A problem that no region has been able to solve - perhaps it has to do with the game's distribution through the PlayStation Network in the various regions. Possibly the game's online play? Who knows. We'll find out in due time.

@2 buffer underrun? is that like buffer overflow?

That is kinda funny that they cant figure it out when so many other games have had no problems.  It could be that it is a downloadable game trying to perform a new feature or two over the internet.  It could also be something as simple as a saving error or freeze thats hard to fix.

If this "technical problem" gets solved by SCE Liverpool, it's good news for the PS3 game-developer community. Obviously, the issue is to do with the programming rather than what the writer of the article suggests. If it's to do with the distribution in the PSN, it would have been a "distribution issue", not a "tech issue".

The reason I believe that it would be good for the PS3 game-dev community is because Sony shares its codes with developers. Anytime a Sony studio figures a new way to make more efficient scripts, it's openly accessible to other developers. So if this issue, that has remained unsolved by every other region, is resolved, we could see even better games on the PS3 due to more efficient coding. That's my hypothesis, anyway.

Consider this: What if the entire time we've said that developers were being lazy with the PS3's architecture is because they ran into this "technical problem" that not even Sony knew how to deal with?

Why be so vague about it. If it was a normal programming problem they could have just told us. It's probably something we as consumers don't really care about but as a gamecompany is a must.

It will be a screw loose, litterally.

Some sort of scre cme loose on 1 of the machines that has the improtant data and now renders it un-useable.  They won't fix it becasue they are software not hardware so will have to wait for the maintenance crew to come and tighten up 1 screw.

You think its silly but I have seen it, an IT guy wouldn't unscrew 1 screw  o he could gain acess to a floor box so he could plug in the printer instead he called me to do it.

Yes I hate IT they do feck all.

Technical problems that no region can solve? Sounds like BS to me,

Im sure Wipeout will kick azs but to imply that it will require something radically different from any other game developed on the PS3 sounds a little silly.

It's just the start of the WO hype machine me thinks.

If a game doesn't get delayed you get a piece of sh!t. You don't want to see Wipeout with a fatal freeze. Heck I don't give a care if Killzone 2 or Home gets delayed again. If you want Wipeout then get it on PSP

If they ran into a problem then they ran into a problem, and in this case it seems to be a difficult one to conquer so I don't think it's appropriate for people to start an attack and bash these people :) Sorry, just saying. It's a sad thing but you know that's just how it is. Everything isnt just straightforward, you can't expect things to go smoothly all the time, especially not if it's programming.

I think when they mean no region can solve it, it's that they've asked development teams at SCEE, SCEA and SCEJ and no one could figure it out... That's just my guess.
