[UPDATE] Rock Band 2 allows free access to Rock Band tracks

According to a transcript from the Insider program at IGN, Rock Band 2 will be capable of downloading the set list from the original title free of charge. This is on top of having the ability to redownload all of the content you've previously paid for from the previous installment. For those of you wondering what the set list for Rock Band 2 will bring, you'll have to continue to wait as only rumors have been circulating the title thus far.

As for the release date? That's still unknown as the PlayStation 3 format has still yet to receive anything concrete. Hopefully Harmonix will be willing to let us in on that come E3.

UPDATE:

IGN has since issued the following statement: "Nate (the originator of the above quote) goofed in writing that. He hopes that is allowed. Nothing about this has been announced and Nate's never even seen RB2. Sorry, guys."

    @ 3 If they cared less about money than they would have just kept putting new tracks on the original and not bothered doing a sequel much like SONY is doing with singstar!!!! If RB and GH made just one game and all the songs as downloadable content I would definitely buy one of them but it's just a waste of money buying the sequels when there's only a small hand full of songs that you actually like on the list.

    unlock Guitar hero who releases new editions just to get your money.. RB2 is putting in user requested features.  Why don't you wait to see everything that they're adding before whining.

    Unfortunately they goofed up on reported that.   There is no official word as of yet that you will be able to DL Rock Band 1 songs onto Rock Band 2 for free.   Just about everyone is hoping for it to happen, but we will have to wait till E3

    As far as the set list rumors: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/06/rumor-rock-band-2-setlist-leak-uncovered-by-two-sources/

    I'm buying Rockband 2 for the better.... EVERYTHING.

    They may be saying you candownload the on disk music form the first game into the second one. Because they keep saying the new game will have new features in regards to music so why not let you use those features with the old songs. As for Cross compatability with DLC that simply rocks regardless of anything else they do.

     they should put a co op battlemode for online. like guitar and drums vs another guitar and drums for a higher score cause thats would be awsome.

    @6

    I have a feeling they didn't want to, but GH:WT pressured them to make another one.

    @13

    Too bad you haven't seen RB2's drums yet.  Don't come to any conclusions yet.

    I'm getting GH4 simply for the new drumset, I need more difficulty and an extra pad may be just what I need, but now it looks as though I will be getting RB2 when it comes out as well, I am proud to support developers who are trying really hard to give the people what they want.

    Them making another Rock Band this quickly is why I don't buy music games with the exception of DDR. They just came out with the first one not too long ago, and if I was a betting man 1 million dollars says that Rock Band 2 will have the same graphics as the first one with just different downloadable songs and a different modes that they could of done in the first one.

    Well that sucks, what a plonker writing about a game he has never seen.

    And, jeez, Rock Band 1 is only just out, and we're already talking abut Rock Band 2? The first ine had like, no good songs on it.
