Resident Evil 5 ad confirms death of iconic character

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine features a sprawling, 2-page advertisement for Capcom’s upcoming Survival Horror sequel, Resident Evil 5 – and with it, some rather upsetting news for long time fans of the series.

Kneeing down in front of a gravestone in the middle of a cemetery under grim skies, hulky hero Chris Redfield pays his last respects to fellow BSAA comrade and former Resident Evil heroine, Jill Valentine. Quite a shocker, we’ll think you’ll agree.

Although Valentine’s death was previously hinted at the culmination of a new RE5 trailer at October’s Tokyo Game Show, the footage was filmed off screen and never 'officially' released, so chances are alot you missed out on the news.

Valentine previously appeared as a playable character in Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, before joining Redfield and the remaining S.T.A.R.S in their quest to bring down the pesky Umbrella Corporation following the destruction of Raccoon City ten years ago. She later turned up in the Wii exclusive shooter, Umbrella Chronicles, which depicted the fall of the Mega Corporation during a scenario set in February 2003.

Quite frankly, we can’t buy the fact Capcom would kill off such an iconic character without at the very least elaborating on her fate to some extent – Still, we’ll find out soon enough come March.

    No explanation of death, no way they would just kill off one of their main characters. I wont believe she is dead until i have been given proof. haha sorry longtime fan of this series.

    I dont believe a word of it, its just like ardalan89 said, its nothing more than a way to draw attention to the game. She'll be proven alive before the game's end I'm sure.

    Yeah, you'll see her get her throat cut by a plant monster and then you'll flood the chamber with sarin gas or something and then for good measure you'll blow up the joint. Then two hours later she'll walk out from behind a pillar with a funny voice or some such thing.

    its a twist jill's alive.this is how i know remember back in re 1 at the end when jill confronted wesker about his evil plans.... well in re5 they didnt want that again they wanted chris for that this time(but that still dont mean she had to be "killed off suposely") they just wanted chris to settle his problems with wesker once and for all+ the new character sheva.but i just knoe jill is helping chris behind the scenes.jills death is clearly a fake.it would make more since if they killed barry off in stead of jill.even tho barry is one of my favorites too.

    I also have to agree. I don't beleave she is dead. Anything could be made of this. Maybe someone was showing him the future if he was to continue. And then at the end he gives his life for Jill. Don't be mad but I beleave I just spoiled the end lol.

     @5

    Exactly, its just a ploy to bring people in. She may die at some point in the game but it'll be after it's revealed that she was alive the whole time.
