Summary
A refined and polished sequel to a brilliant skateboarding game.
We like
- The increased move-set, which gives you further flexibility on your board
- The beautifully designed skateboarding paradise of New San Van
- The brilliant 'Create-A-Spot' mode, which adds further replay value
We dislike
- The steep learning curve for "noobs" or the impatient
- The clunky on-foot controls
- The occasionally annoying camera angle

(continued from previous page) ...bounds since 2006, but it didn't really need to. The changes that have been made, most notably a significant boost to the move set, make Skate 2 as good a sequel as we could have wished for. In our eyes, it's going to take a masterpiece to knock it off its throne.

i never enjoyed the first one. I loved the concept. So realistic, beatiful. But it kinda ruined it for me. Too complex too really have fun. Without of course really putting some time into the game. Unlike the Thug games for example, which were pure chaos awesome, that was fun, just to skate around and get millions of points, hehe

I know i sound like bastard but i thought it was easy to pick up and play, sure certain mission can be an utter bi*ch. Although i sucked at tony hawk, compared to my friends, i like the more fluent style(imo) also grinding is so much more satisfying, lock on for "noobs".

It is funny how terrible the on-foot controls are when compared to the controls for everything else. It is like they decided to give the on-foot control coding to someone's retarded brother.

The on-foot feature is supposed to be rubbish, its so that you spend most of your time on the skateboard, still it is a bit too rubbish.
Camera angles do get annoying, esp when you're going a flip and the camera stays low so you can't see your character at all.
As someone who didn't play the original I found it quite hard to get the hang of the controls but as a medium-hardcore gamer I did get the hang of it quite quickly, While FPS games take me a few mins to adjust, this game took me about 4 hours before I felt confident, however it is far superior to how Tony Hawks games dealt with the controls as you feel like you actuall achieved something hard in skate, even something as simple as a kickflip 180 feels like a challenge when playing S.K.A.T.E.
The multiplayer is great fun, esp hall of meat and spot battle.

yep on foot is rubbish, he walks like a complete brain less mooron and appears to only do 90 degree turns and this game also suffers the annoying get in the way camera angles just as the first one did. try lineing up for a stair rail grind and your character completely blocks your view, dumb or what

Off the board does what its supposed to. Get you up stairs so you dont have to skate around the city and lets you move objects around. I for one dont just run around the city. Camera angle can be change in the options menu for the ones that dont like the behind the skater camera.

I've been a real life skater for most of my life and played every one of the tony hawks releases (especialy good when its to wet to skate outside) and while i loved most of them, some did suck a little, i always felt it was an arcade experience. a lot of the tricks are unrealistic in their execution and the grinding especialy always annoyed me. anyone who skates will tell you if you skate directly at a rail side on and ollie onto it you do not suddenly start grinding. you usually bail.
Then last year i got skate as my first PS3 game purchase and.. well it was awesome. the tricks are realisticaly portrayed, the flickit system (whilst a little tricky to get used to after the constant holding down and releasing of the ollie button in TH) is absolutely brilliant once mastered allowing for a much greater sense of satisfaction when you do nail that trick or line you've been trying for half an hour.
Then last week on the day skate2 was released i got my copy delivered and it has not let its predecessor down. the controls are as intuitive as they ever were and the addition of the new options has just opened up a new world of tech. The ability to set up your own lines and move objects around has me looking at san van in a way i always looked at real places, something that real skaters will all admit to doing, which i think is proof of the apeal that this extra dimension has added.
My only gripe would as others have said be the awkward walking controls and i would agree with someone else who said it is only for moving stuff round and for going up stairs so you dont have to go round. in the end the walking part is not what the game is about... it isnt like they called it Walk2 is it

If you liked Skate get this game. It takes everything positive from Skate and improves on it. They added a few new skaters like Eric Koston, a new game mode Hall Of Meat where you gain points by breaking body parts, and different variations of bails. They added somd new tricks such as Hippie Flips, Hand/Foot Plants, and different special air tricks (Airwalk, Christ Air, One Footer, ECT.). They remade San Vanelona, keeping some of last games spots and adding many new epic spots. The online is smooth and much better than the last installment. With good DLC and a new addition of createing a graphics online you definitely get your $60 worth. The only thing I have against it is the lack of set Lip Tricks. If you like the first without question you should pick up this game. The best Skate simulation ever made 8/10 in my book.

does it have the flickit thing with the analogue stick for the ps3?
and who gives a crap if the on foot is terrible, your meant to skate in this game and its just to help you get up stairs and move objects anyway. i couldnt care less if the on foot sucked.
