LittleBigPlanet 2 confirmed, first details surface

LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule’s ridiculously cute, creativity-promoting platformer, was generally well received by critics and fans alike. Though the copious amounts of DLC and player-created levels have given this game longer legs than most, rumors have been circulating for some time about the possibility of a sequel.

Game Informer, in addition to revealing the cover art for their June issue, stated that their next magazine will contain a “huge, feature article on LittleBigPlanet 2.”

Though news of the game comes as no surprise, this is the first solid and official confirmation we’ve seen.

There are a few details we have via a NeoGaf forum member. The sequel will include new tools to allow players to create puzzle games, racing games, role-playing games, and real-time strategy games. Players will also be able to create and edit short films, record their own sound effects, and create their own cut scenes.

The post also indicates that the sequel will include the all new Sackbot, a programmable enemy. Players can define controls for the enemies, vehicles, and the Sackboy himself. This sounds like one of the biggest changes we’ll see to LittleBigPlanet 2. It also appears you’ll be able to bring in all of your created levels, downloadable content, and costumes from LBP.

We’ll have more details on LittleBigPlanet 2 as they become available. Keep in mind, some of this information is clearly subject to change.
