Christopher Judge, the actor who portrays Kratos in the latest God of War video games, has revealed during a panel at Fan Expo Canada that he’s confident Dave Bautista will do a great job playing the character in Amazon’s upcoming series, but made it clear he’s not interested in taking up Kratos’ Blades of Chaos himself.
With Ryan, I thought that was absolutely the right choice. He’s played all the games. He’s a gamer and new father; like, who better? Then when he got hurt, it was like, are they going to take time to read with and call people back? So when I heard the name of Bautista, I thought, ‘Didn’t he just lose like 100 pounds?’ So I hope he’s going to be great. I think he’s going to be great. I just hope it doesn’t cause any health issues to put back on all that weight.
“I didn’t want to do it,” said Judge, about the possibility of him taking on the role. “I didn’t want to, at 62 years old, work 16-to-18-hour days. I didn’t want to be dieting constantly; I didn’t want to be working out constantly.”
“So all I want is whoever… that he loves this character as much as we all do, and he just lets it fly,” he added. “Don’t be afraid of being emotional. Don’t be afraid of being soft or whatever. As long as you lead with honesty and love, it’s going to be great. So I’m happy for him.”
The God of War series originally cast Ryan Hurst in the role of Kratos, but a bicep injury sustained during filming saw the show makers opt to replace him with Dave Bautista due to how long Hurst’s injury would require to heal.
