Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has officially been cast as Kratos in the upcoming Amazon God of War live-action series, replacing original actor Ryan Hurst after he suffered an on-set injury.
Hurst tore his bicep during the early stages of filming for God of War, with production suspended as a result. However, it was soon made clear that his injury would take some time to heal, and therefore the production team decided to recast the role. Bautista was rumoured to be in line for taking over the role earlier this month.
Bautista originally started out as a wrestler and has since made the transition to Hollywood films, much like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena. Among his roles include Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and its various sequels, as well as Spectre, Dune, Knock at the Cabin, Blade Runner 2049, and Army of the Dead among others.
With Bautista now taking over the role, production is expected to resume within the next few weeks, and all scenes that were previously shot with Hurst in the role will be completely reshot. Recently it was also reported that Amazon was looking to recast he roles of Atreus and Thrud for the second season of the show due to the time jump.
