Amazon’s God of War live-action series is recasting the role of Kratos following an on-set injury sustained by Ryan Hurst last month.
According to TMZ, Hurst tore his bicep while filming a stunt on the show and required surgery as a result, although at the time it was stated that production was merely halted while Hurst recovered. Following up on this initial report, Deadline states that Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios have made the decision to recast the role, after realising that Hurst’s injury could take up to a year to heal.
The God of War series is now expected to resume production in October following a preparation phase next month. According to Deadline, the four episodes that had already been shot for the series will need to be reshot with Hurst’s replacement.
Amazon and Sony had previously revealed that the God of War series will feature Callum Vinson as Atreus, Max Parker (Heimdall), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Thor), and Mandy Patinkin (Odin).
God of War will feature Ronald D. Moore as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Executive producers including Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Sad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hurst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon.
