Does Skyrim's timed-exclusive content warrant a boycott for PS3 owners?

The announcement of the Xbox 360’s first access to add-on content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim seemed to strike a nerve with some PlayStation 3 loyalists. It seems any time a game boasts first dibs on DLC, expansions packs, or even exclusive content for one console, the war between PS3 and Xbox 360 fans only grows hotter.

Enter today’s announcement from Bethesda that the first two add-on content for Skyrim will be released exclusively on Xbox 360 as a primary example of how to fan the flames of rage for some PS3 fans. Sure, the announcement today states the content on Xbox 360 will be available “30 days before it’s available anywhere else,” means PS3 owners will likely see this content a month later. Xbox 360 fans would likely feel the same frustration if the content was slated for release on PS3, too.

But does waiting for extra content warrant such anger, even a call to boycott the game? Some may think so. There is a petition in the forums of PSU calling for PS3 owners to boycott the game. At the very least, gamers are voicing their frustration with exclusive and/or timed content. Others seem to care less about the announcement.

So, the question to you, happy (or, unhappy) gamers: Does the announcement of Microsoft’s timed-exclusive content for Skyrim piss you off enough to boycott the game all together? Does this mean you’ll buy it for Xbox 360 instead of PS3 or PC? Or, do you wish exclusive content would go away all together?

Even though I don't like this game (It's not my type, not saying it's bad), I would boycott it because I don't support that on ANY game.

I find it funny because if it was the other way round PS3 users would be laughing and 360 users will be complaining so no one wins

Who gives a sh!!t about exclusive DLCS for 30 days? This stup!!d Microsoft will go to no where. Go create games and better stuff not having exclusive DLCS. Thats why I throwed my Xbox in garbage bin 4 months ago.

it is a bit funny that they turn to an online petition because that is just pointless but 30 days isn\'t that much to rage about.

Wish they would get rid of exclusive dlc\'s in general. It just creates a massive negative attitude towards either company. And they dont really gain anything from it except from people that have both systems will be more likely to get it on the 360 instead of their ps3/pc

    Oh, the irony.

MICROSOFT were going to completely deny release of games if this happened to them. Hipocrisy is rife within Microsoft's offices.

Doesn't matter the game is so long by the time you finish the campaign, the dlc will be out for PS3. Microsoft needs to but money into making real games not exclusive DLC, thats just lazy. plus if your gaming on PS3 you have more than enough to play until it does come out. Who cares. I'll play Uncharted, StarHawk, ECt..... until then.

Why is this news to anyone at all? Let's hit the list shall we?

Fallout 3: Bethesda published it, it had exclusively timed DLC on the 360 for a long while.

Fallout New Vegas: Bethesda published it, it had exclusively timed DLC on the 360 for a long while

Oblivion: Bethesda published it, it had ........

I think the point should be clear now, we (ps3 owners) have been getting the short end from Bethesda for a while now and it should be so simple to see.

Boycott it all you want, it has happened before, it will happen again. If you really want to stick it to them torrent the game and all the DLC. (I'm not condoning illegal activity, just saying the other extreme to boycotting)

A boycott is certainly warrented, but I'd imagine any attempt at one would be completely unsuccessful. One more black mark against Bethesda.

300 Hours of gameplay in skyrim i\'ll be done with the game with in a week (they say 300 hours but i beat oblivion and its expansions in a week)... but would i boycott this game no its a great game its not like xbox is getting them for free or there exclusive they only get them 30 days before us.

If people boycott the game because the 360\'s getting dlc 30 days before the ps3 that would be stupid because when assassins creed comes out on the ps3 with completely exclusive dlc you don\'t see x-box owners start crying about it when their never getting the dlc.

Make it a "timed" purchase and only get it when the add on content is available for the PS3.

What's an addon? Fogedaboudit! If a game is good, then it's good. We get platinums on every disc game we play, and Xbox gets timed exclusives that lose their significance when we get them. It's like taking children from bad parents and giving them to someone who cares.

that's just reality of how a big name company (M$) that doesn't care one second about people's feelings and only wants more money will force decision over a game developer because they have the money to do so

what's more pitiful is that M$ these days don't get anymore siw months or 1 year "exclusivity" (that has been "timed exclusive" anyway except maybe 3 games/licences), 1 month is ridiculous but enough to show distributors (I don't accuse the guys that actually programmed the game) prefer cashing a M$ big cheque rather than earning money in the normal way = selling the game

Doesn\'t matter to me.. the Xbox with it\'s inferior hardware when compared between all thee platform\'s potentials.. they NEED to have nonsense such as these... Enjoy their exclusive 30 days DLC.. I don\'t care.. in 30 days.. I\'ll get the same contents as they would.. but they will never get the same quality and game play experience I\'ll get... save for buying a PS3 or a good PC.. My two cents.. so nothing to be upset about..
