The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has dropped a heap of info regarding Square Enix’s downloadable content plans for Final Fantasy XIII-2, specifically regarding the character of Lightning.

According to the publication (via Andriasang), the FFXIII heroine will appear in the sequel as a downloadable coliseum character – beat her, and you’ll be able to add her to your party.

Furthermore, Lightning will also feature in ‘secret story episodes’ in FFXIII-2, though Square is remaining tight-lipped on any specific details.

Elsewhere, representatives for Square Enix’s 1st Production Department confirmed that the Japanese company is hoping to flesh out FFXIII-2’s narrative outside of DLC, such as novels and other media. In particular, Square says it is keen to feature Sazh and his son in this extended material.

Finally, the firm also touched briefly on the forthcoming high-definition revamp of Final Fantasy X. Apparently, screenshots on the game won’t be arriving just yet, though Square hopes it won't take too long to get the game released.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is due out in the U.S. on January 31, with a European release arriving on February 3.

The game is not released yet. Why don't they put this content INSIDE the game. Why should it be downloadable? This is humiliating to them and insulting to the consumers. Showing some dignity from time to time could be a nice turn.

Well everyone always said Japan devs where "falling behind the times and should be more like western devs(there was a nice long thread about a year ago)" Well you guys are getting your wish.

think it's great that they are doing that. Everyone knew that Lightning was not going to be a main character in this game. Now we will have the option to use her. I will buy all the DLC for this game. Hopefully they are available the first week of release. I just hope she isn't super rediculous to defeat like the mark mission Attacus on XIII. That doesn't seem like it would be very realistic. Can't wait!

Epic_gear, the game is already released in Japan. We are always "behind" when it comes to games developed over there - by the time we get the games, they are already making DLC or the sequel to the game.

I wish it didnt get DLC like 13, but I can understand why there doing it (everyones doing it, why be the one to lose out on potential money)

This could potentially be a huge deal. They could create coliseum fights with classic characters that you can get to join your party. Cloud, Cecil, etc. This is wishfull thinking, but you never know!

imprtant question is : will Lightning (or any DLC guest anyway) be in third spot like the creatures or can you switch the DLC character to replace Noel or Serah? (actually I already hate Noel)

@Fenix Thanks for correcting me about the game release in Japan. The reason of my complaints is that developers/companies (not only squarenix) on purpose don't include great ideas into the game in order to make you pay later extra money. All these ideas in the ''pre-dl era'', were like the secrets of the game that made it more ''spicy'' & interesting. Now they use these ''spicy'' ideas to lure you buy them for a game you already own and that seems wrong to me. Imagine a ''Knights Of The Round summon pack'' for FFVII...
