Sony’s PlayStation Vita has sold just 100,000 units in its first 10 weeks on sale in the U.K., Pocket Gamer reports.

By comparison, the report states that PlayStation Portable moved 350,000 units in the same time frame.

Citing Gfk Chart-Track data, Pocket Gamer also notes that Nintendo’s 3DS handheld has notched up nearly one million sales in the region since its launch in March 2011. However, it didn’t quite match the milestone set by its predecessor, which took 51 weeks to top the magic million mark.

Dorian Bloch, business group director at Gtf Chart-Track, observed that the average PS Vita unit cost around £232 during the handheld’s first 10 weeks on sale, compared to PSP’s £178.

“[PS Vita] was launched at a traditionally quiet time, and [PSP] was launched in the build-up to Q4,” noted Bloch.

Kazuo Hirai, President and CEO of Sony Corporation, said earlier this month that PS Vita had sold 1.8 million units worldwide since its launch in December 2011.
