Metal Gear maestro Hideo Kojima has confirmed that the Fox Engine will be showcased in Japan on August 30.
A post on the U.S. PlayStation Blog reveals Kojima-san’s musings on the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear franchise, where he revealed the engine was “nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along.”
He also revealed that Metal Gear Rising was going to be powered by the Fox Engine before it shifted development to Platinum Games.
“Originally we were going to do this for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but a lot happened along the way and instead it is being made with the engine they have at Platinum Games," he said.
"Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do… on August 30th in Japan to be more specific."
With rumors on Metal Gear Solid 5 showing no signs of slowing down, speculation is already doing the rounds that Konami may unveil the stealth-action sequel running on the Fox Engine at the event.
Kojima-san is believed to be working on a game titled ‘Project Ogre,’ though whether or not this is actually MGS5 remains to be seen.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
