Demon's Souls

This surprise hit from... well, From SoftWare might be the hardest game in our lineup, but that didn't stop gamers from flocking to it in droves. The thrill of challenge (and reward) speaks to all of us, and Demon's Souls serves up both in spades. Thankfully, the tear-jerkingly difficult encounters are complemented by solid RPG mechanics and an atmospheric world that's as compelling as it is frightening. If you've managed to master Demon's Souls, consider yourself a champion. The rest of us will be content considering the game as one of PS3's absolute best.

Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter IV may be the only fighting game in our 32 combatants, but it's well-deserving of its spot. The game single-handedly reinvigorated an entire genre and, with its lasting presence in professional circuits, has helped legitimize video gaming as a competitive force to be reckoned with. Lasertight mechanics and beautiful cel-shaded graphics have carved out a place in our hearts for this latest installment of the legendary franchise, and we'd be more than satsified with this entry for many years to come. Any reason to bring back cries of "Hadooouken!!" is one to celebrate.
