Sony wants you to come up with a new DualShock 3 design

It seems that the Japanese hardware giant may be getting a little tired of releasing the same old controller in a plethora of colors.

Sony today posted a “call to arms,” so to speak, asking you, the devoted PlayStation gamer, what you think the next DualShock 3 should look like.

Maybe it’s because Sony is running out of ideas, or maybe it’s because some of them just weren’t very good; but the next DualShock 3 will be crafted with you in mind.

Starting today (until August 15), you can head on over to PlayStation.Blog.Share to pitch your ideas, and here to vote on your favorite ones.

Sony says your idea could be as simple as a new color, or a controller theme from your favorite PlayStation game.

Drop a comment below if you’ve submitted a design; you can get others to help vote for your creation.

So I submitted an idea of the same controller but with a beautiful glossy black with silver accents and edges, along with transparent buttons, much looking like the PlayStation Vita – If you like the idea of that, please search “Glossy Vita-Like Controller w/ Transparent Buttons” in PlayStation Blog Share and vote mine up!

This is cool though, glad PS is doing it!

@garethf - in regards to the controller itself, I agree. A new color wouldn't hurt, though. P.S. the podcast is coming! I can't do it alone!!

I think this is a great idea. You need to make a controller that suits Xbox player also. I think that is a big market for that. Make something that is not from a third party that does some good justice. I believe there is a big market and would pull a lot of xbox players.

How about this! keep the original design that has been used for almost 20 years. But add newer bluetooth 4.0 technology and also maybe a new battery. And make the port a USB micro. Thats all you need.

The new BT 4.0 decreases energy use by like half so the battery is going to last longer anyways.

I think most PS users will be happy with just that. Up to date BT tech, and a battery that can last weeks on a charge.

No need for new buttons, or design.

I agree.  Why fix a good thing.  Usually doesn't work out.  Besides, there is always going to be someone that isn't happy.  Why not just take a poll and see how many people like it the way it is versus not and go from there.

There is nothing wrong with the current controller. There's absolutely no need to change the shape of it. It fits perfectly into your hand. Thats one of reasons why i prefer this controller over the xbox controller.

Keep the design of the PS controller just bring out more colour variations of it. After all,the controller is moulded from a mould machine and all that would be required to change the colour is just to used different coloured plastic pellets instead of black.

    Job done Sony.

I am very happy with the current controller. And personally, I'd hate you for changing it. Besides I am way to used to the dualshock layout, which is one of the reasons why I wan't to stick with the Playstation consoles.
