Kotaku: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is missing 'urgency'

Kotaku released a video in response to playing the closed beta for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and it mentions that the beta doesn't have urgency.

Directly comparing it to Super Smash Brothers, Kotaku said that the lack of bottomless pits in PSASBR doesn't give it the dramatic urgency that SSB has in each of its matches. This point can be countered by the fact that each level has some way to get damaged by the field itself. Still, having multiple contingencies to contend with would make the games themselves that much more invigorating.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is, of course, still in beta form, and feedback is how things get improved. Let us know here or in our forums what you think of the beta, if you've played it, or what you think about PSASBR not having that "urgency element."

I just got done playing the beta, and im not really crazy about it at all. The main reason, its practicly a spitting image from Nin's franchise. Im wondering what happend to all the new ideas these developers are suppose to have, is it that hard?  The beta plays well, for a beta. But, I don't see myself stooping low enough to support a copy-cat title, imo. =/

I literally just stopped playing the beta and I have to say it's certainly lacking and the box level design is weak not being able to be thrown off the stage makes it kinda boring since building up for supers isn't exactly exciting

BS. Just because you can throw someone off a stage it's boring and not urgent? I mean do people just make stuff up these days? What a bunch of crap. Kotaku is always with the Sony negativity. Lots of fighting game you can't be thrown off things and are they boring. Total nonsense. We haven't even seen all the modes yet.

If this title was cloned and launched on the Wii with inferior graphics and simply a change in the character line up, sites like Kotaku would be sucking it off so hard right now.

I can't judge because I haven't played the beta, but the games visual style is so unoriginal that it can't avoid comparison to Super Smash Bros. Maybe a more gritty, realism in the graphics would have set it apart and favoured characters like Sweet Tooth, Kratos, Drake and Cole Mcgrath. It seems like Sony took the easy route and went for the cartoon look and similar gameplay than that of Nintendo's all-star beat em up.

This game will receive hate either way. I don't get how people can dislike it for being a rip-off of Super Smash Bros. and then complain later about how it doesn't play exactly like the franchise. That being said, I'm not overly-excited about this game. It looks like something you can pick up and play with a friend every now and then.

Booooooo The game sucks the camera is way to far away from the characters to see what the heck is going on not enough characters to play with and why is it that the games controls are slow and cumbersome

This game is inspired if it was cloned it would be like Mario Kart Wii vs Chinese Mole Kart.
