New PS3 software update 4.30 coming Tuesday

It's been quite troublesome for many of us who hunt trophies on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita, because PS3 users couldn't see PS Vita trophies. The upcoming software update version 4.30 will fix all that.

That's right, PS3 update 4.30 will allow all users to see trophies earned from their PS Vitas. Once Tuesday comes around, we won't have to figure out where players got all of their platinum trophies.

There will be one more major change with this upcoming update. Officially ending in November, the Life with PlayStation application will no longer be offered, which means that all Folding@home operations done in cooperation with Stanford University will also end. In appreciation, the research lead of Stanford's Folding@home research project had this to say:

“The PS3 system was a game changer for Folding@home, as it opened the door for new methods and new processors, eventually also leading to the use of GPUs. We have had numerous successes in recent years. Specifically, in a paper just published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, we report on tests of predictions from earlier Folding@home simulations, and how these predictions have led to a new strategy to fight Alzheimer’s disease. The next steps, now underway at Stanford, are to take this lead compound and help push it towards a viable drug. It’s too early to report on our preliminary results there, but I’m very excited that the directions set out in this paper do appear to be bearing fruit in terms of a viable drug (not just a drug candidate).”

Though we're getting a nice addition with version 4.30, we'll be losing a very intriguing application. Let us know your thoughts, and feel free to brag about your contributions to Folding@home below.

Never happy about losing functionality, and as a non-Vita owner, this update doesn't make me happy :l

I love the folding@home app! i dont know how many packs i had completed but the fact that when i wasn't doing anything with the ps3 i'd just leave it running on F@H until i i came home or wanted to play online. The thought of the PS3 helping to save lives in the future............pretty cool! I'll be sad to see this go. However there are probably a number of users in the world that doesn't (soon to be didn't) know the program exists.

Loved the fact that F@H came to PS3, hopefully a collabaration will happen with the next-gen console.

Still a folder today, and ill keep going with my CPU and GPU on PC!

i jus barely started protein folding the F@H because i didnt know wether or not it would interfere with my gaming time now that i have no online it really bums me to see something so spectacular on ps3 console to date... I.e. since i finally downloaded like 3 months ago i tried protein folding and tried to understand the folding process in essence... Well as for the many who have contributed before me I wished I had too if i understood it better not misinterpreting wether or not would cause me to not be able to play games on my ps3. Well Good job Stanford University it was a Very good and interesting experience felt great to find ways to understand protein folding and to invest in a project so vast that could help the cause of understanding and finding ways for cures etc... Thanks sony for accepting this F&H project on your console ps3 but you might to reconsider of getting rid of this because i believe there are still many who continue to contribute and many who are new that like to invest thats what continues to bring in new users who help the cause to assist in the fight for many diseases etc... Thanks again oh and im on team 54376 name PS3INFAMOUS13 as donor name... and psn account SURENOTHUG13 so far i have only completed one WU since i started id started new one and would like to continue

I used to use F@H quite a bit a few years ago, and so did a few people on my friends list. But i have not seen them on it, nor have I used it in a long time. It is a good program for an awesome cause, so it sucks to see it go even if it isnt used often.

As for the addition of Vita trophies becoming visible on the Ps3, I think its great. I will be picking up the White Vita Liberation Bundle the same day the firmware comes out, so I wont know it without the functionality. But I'm a trophy hunter, and having the ability to see mine and my friends vita and ps3 trophies on both systems will be awesome.

This is great, they've needed to solve this problem for a while. Now what they need to do is change it so that you can't double-Platinum games (e.g. MotorStorm RC) by getting the Platinum on one system, then signing in to the other to automatically unlock duplicates of every trophy. That feature is a crime, people shouldn't be awarded every trophy twice, and all those with duplicates should have them removed. This is a very inaccurate way of measuring trophy progress and severely ruins the trophy system! Get this fixed Sony!

What is the point of these "updates" they don't even really add any usuable funcionality. Why do I have to be forced to update for things that won't affect me..

Hopefully the PS4 comes in 2014.
