Pachter: PS4, Xbox 720 games to cost 70 dollars

Industry analyst Michael Pachter has claimed that software for PlayStation 4 and the new Xbox will retail for around $70 at launch.
Pachter was speaking at the SXSW conference over the weekend, where he also stated his belief that Xbox 720 will triumph over the PS4 in the next-generation console war.
The analyst’s comments were confirmed via journalist Geoff Keighley, who was Tweeting from the event. If $70 is indeed the standard price point, then this will make next-gen games $10 more expensive than the current crop of console titles.
PS4 was announced at the PlayStation Meeting on February 20, with a launch window of holiday 2013 confirmed by Sony. Microsoft however has yet to announce its next-generation Xbox, though it has been reported the system will be unveiled in April.
Stay tuned for more info as we get it.

If thats the case, oh well! I dont plan to buy over 100 disc games this next generation. Also with my space getting limited, I plan to buy more retail games digitally. From this I hope Sony continues the "spend so and so this month on PStore, get $ back" - that would be really cool. $10 or $20 like they have before is a good idea.

It wouldn't surprise me, it goes up $10 every generation. At the same time, im taking it with a grain of salt like everything else that comes out of Patchers big a.s.s mouth. Specially when he says the next Xbox is going to beat the PS4, when neither console is out yet. Heck, the next Xbox hasn't even been announced, and none of the games have been shown. Notice that he's the only analyst that comes out with this crap.

The guy from Sony stated that games will cost .99 to 59, I will take the word from someone at Sony over this guy. Maybe the $70 is for the next Xbox because it isn't for the PS4.

Why is this guy still working?? Seriously no one will pay 70 dollars per-game and if anyone does they're idiots because the publishers are just going to hit you for 10 and 15 dollars more for DLC after the game is out, who in their right mind would pay close to 85 or 100 dollars for a game that they're technically not doing any more work on? Developers have already said that the textures use see in current gen games are down rezed to fit the constraints of the console hardware so better hardware and more RAM mean they dont have to reduce the textures. And the technology involved in making 3D content improves every year too so it's not like the modelers are working that much harder to create characters for next gen.
I've said it time and again Pachter is a raging HACK at predicting this industry, I've made better more accurate predictions and it's not even my effing JOB! If publishers trying to push for an arbitrary and unwarrented price jump to 70 dollar games, they will kill the industry. -

forget the hate towards Pachter for a second.. developers have always gone on record saying the transition and jump to the next generation of consoles is always more expensive. That is probably where Pachter is getting this from. How is it more expensive? No idea, I dont make games ;p

wait... so we're getting a new generation of hardware thats EASIER TO DEVELOP ON and they want more money? why didnt they ask for 100 dollars when they were having SUCH big problems developing for ps3? Prices should go down since they already know how to handle the architecture of the new consoles

I highly doubt this. with tax that would mean that next gen games will be around $75!! Then add the costs of a map pack and you're already close to $100 just for a video game.

$70 would be great! most games launch at $79 - $119 here in OZ anyway so that would be a relief, but I see tax bringing this up to $89 - $129, ah well, I've still got my dreamcast
