Kingdom Hearts 3 dev says Sony has 'gone too far' with PS4 hardware

The co-director of Kingdom Hearts III has admitted developing for PlayStation 4 has been one of the biggest hurdles he and his team have had to overcome -- but in a good way.

Speaking to Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu (via GearNuke), Tetsuya Nomura, who is also involved in the development of Final Fantasy XV, said he feels Sony’s “gone too far” in regards to the console’s hardware capabilities.

“Looking at PS4, I thought ‘they’ve gone too far.’ I wish they would just let us off the hook. For the player, having a game that’s ‘thoroughly made’ makes them excited with anticipation, but for a developer, it’s a hurdle we have to overcome,” said Nomura-san.

"The number of things we have to do keeps increasing and if we keep trying to expand as far as it will go, we’ll never be finished. I think we’re going to end up being faced with the choice of what to keep and what to give up on [for Kingdom Hearts III].”

"There have been a lot of different consoles in the past, but I feel that this one is the biggest mountain we’ve had to climb yet, in a good way."

Kingdom Hearts III was announced alongside Final Fantasy XV - previously known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII - at E3 2013. Both games will be coming to the PS4 in addition to Xbox One. However, they’re a long way off yet.
