amBX to light up battlefields of EndWar

Earlier this month, we reported that Phillips Research had signed a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring its range of amBX peripherals to the PlayStation 3 in an attempt to enrich its games with its all-round sensory experience.

Today, comes the news that Tom Clancy's EndWar will follow Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. in becoming the second game to utilize the amBX set of peripherals, which includes a desk top fan that will simulate the feeling of riding in a fast moving vehicle, as well as various weather conditions (wind, we presume) and L.E.D lights that will represent the changing landscapes and muzzles flashes of weapons. Rumblers will also be available in the set, which will mimic the vibrations of vehicles and grenade explosions.

Obviously, Ubisoft has taken a keen interest in amBX, but will anyone else follow? There really needs to be more games supporting it to warrant its current price tag. Tom Clancy's EndWar was released last November, whereas H.A.W.X. arrives on March 6, 2009. You can read more about amBX and go weak at the knees at the cost of its various packages, by visiting the official website.

I got my PS3 right next to my computer.  Not only does the fan on my computer and PS3 run a lot, I have a noisy desk fan turned on my computer because it doesn't have enough fans to keep it cool.  I also have a large box fan on the floor to keep me cool.  So, I don't think I need anymore fans, except maybe some really hot groupie chicks...yeah, I'd like me some of those kind of fans :)  It's kind of a cool idea I guess, but I think the changing lights and wind blowing in your face would end up just being distracting and annoying.

this ambx thing , seems to me, to be the biggggest gimmick -  i mean seriously - a fan? pointing in my face? it wont immerse me more itll make me switch off the damn thing. if you take a look at the website not only is it overpriced but it looks so tacky - especially the LED lights. im not seeing it catching on at all, and if it will, not anytime soon

So is PSU saying both these games support amBX on PS3? Not just PC?

It's only on PC, I think.  From the press release, dated earlier today - "amBX today further strengthened its partnership with Ubisoft via an agreement to amBX-enable Tom Clancy’s EndWar on PC."

Although earlier in the month, they did announce that amBX and Sony had partnered to allow amBX technology to be compatible with the PS3, so maybe PSU has some inside info.

this would be something to look into if TONS of games supported it, and it was affordable. Otherwise, it's not worth the money or clutter.

I bought EndWar a while ago, mainly for the official PS3 bluetooth headset in the bundle. The headset is awesome, but I'm not very satisfied with EndWar. Maybe it's because I'm a noob to the game, but I don't really like the voice command system and the controls and strategy are frustrating. I'll give it another try later and hope I'm not disappointed. I think they should get these peripherals to support FPS's and really immerse the gamer in the first person view. EndWar and HAWX don't really appeal to me anyway.
