The Top 100 Games Of The PS3 Generation: 11 – 20

With the U.K. launch of the PS4 looming, PSU staff have got together to argue and fight over the definitive top 100 games of the PS3 generation, which includes PSP and Vita titles. It’s not quite the end of an era, but it’s the perfect time to reflect back on some of the great titles that have graced Sony’s black behemoth.

20. XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Metacritic score – 89

XCOM: Enemy Unknown offers a refreshing change of pace from the constant barrage of first-person-shooters and third-person action games that seem to have plagued the industry for the last few years.

19. The Walking Dead

Metacritic score – 94

The Walking Dead proves to be Telltale Games’ best outing in the adventure genre in recent memory–if not, ever. This is episodic gaming done right, and just like The Walking Dead TV show, we can’t wait for Season 2.

18. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Metacritc score – 89

Building on what its predecessors created, Human Revolution delivered a strong story, an open-ended approach to its gameplay, and a soundtrack that pulls you into its world. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of the few games that gets player decision-making right.

17. Gran Turismo 5

Metacritic score 84

In Gran Turismo 5, there’s so much quality on the track and so much to do off it that you’ll easily lose yourself with the hundreds of cars available to take for a spin. Then there’s the track editor to test your friends on, and you take it online with your friends in 16-player races for ultimate bragging rights.

16. Killzone 3

Metacritic score – 84

Killzone 3 is one of the best PS3 exclusives. With local co-op, brutal melee combat, and an enormously deep multiplayer mode, it’s clear that Guerrilla Games really appreciates its fans. Buy this game, if you haven’t done already.

15. God of War 3

Metacritic score – 92

God of War III is the best entry in the series and one of the best action-adventure games of this generation. Kratos’ journey comes to an end in an explosion of fluid combat, mammoth environments, and superb narrative.

14. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Metacritic score – 92

Quite possibly the best open-world RPG of this generation, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an enormous and addictive game that is breathtaking in presentation and scale. Exploring its open world will keep you occupied for as long as you want it to, and the nearly countless dungeons, quests, sidequests and guilds mean there is no reason to ever stop playing Skyrim.

13. Journey

Metacritic score – 92

We cannot heap enough praise on the magic formula that thatgamingcompany has come up with for Journey. Almost every aspect of the game is just stunning, from the art direction to the incredible aural presentation. If you miss out on Journey, you are denying yourself one the best gaming experiences on any platform to date, period.

12. Assassins Creed 2

Metacritic score – 91

Creating some of the most awe-inspiring locations, a simple yet complex battle system and continued innovations, Assassin’s Creed II delivered a captivating story and beautiful Italian landscapes. It has been credited as one of the most influential games of the PS3 generation.

11. Mass Effect 3

Metacritic score – 93

BioWare has crafted an emotionally-charged spectacle that is unlikely to be surpassed for some time. A superb plot filled with gripping twists and thought-provoking choices and a surprising solid multiplayer, Mass Effect 3 is an absolute monster of a game.
