Sony announces PS TV service with live television and video on demand available on PS4, PS3 and other devices

In addition to the videogame streaming service PlayStation Now, Sony has also set its sights on an ambitious T.V. service that will be compatible with multiple devices and feature video-on-demand and live television.

At CES 2014, Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, announced the cloud-based service, which will rival other IPTV services such as Netflix, but provided few details apart from confirming a testing phase in the U.S. later this year.

The service has yet to be named and Sony has yet to announce any partnerships, but chief executive Kaz Hirai said that the company had engaged in “good dialogue” with numerous media companies and plans to create a more personal service for consumers who currently have their T.V. packages with cable providers.
