Kingdom Hearts 3 won’t have any QTEs

The director behind Kingdom Hearts III has confirmed that the highly anticipated Disney-RPG won’t feature any Quick-Time Events.

Speaking with Dengeki Magazine (via GamingBolt), Tetsuya Nomura said that QTEs, known as Reaction Commands in the Kingdom Hearts series, have taken a backseat in the latest instalment in the much-loved franchise.

QTE (Quick Time Event. Actions that execute at the touch of a button according to when it displays on screen) isn’t there anymore. For people who have seen the ‘flashy’ battles in Kingdom Hearts II, it felt like there were too many of them when doing these operations," said Nomura-san.

He added that Kingdom Hearts III will require gamers to have good timing in order to make it through certain parts of the game.

Kingdom Hearts III is due out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though a release date has yet to be announced at this point. Despite this, Nomura-san has let slip that he knows the date—he’s just not telling us.

The game was formally unveiled during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference, and also turned up at this year’s show during Square Enix’s presser. Check out the latest details on the game here.
