We think literature and videogames have a lot in common. Electronic Arts does too. According to an upcoming issue of Variety, the publishing supergiant is at work on a new title based on Dante’s Inferno, first part of the medieval Italian epic that charts the poet’s descent into Hell.
Provisionally titled "Inferno," the game is a "modern interpretation" of its source material and sees the player fighting (rather than simply travelling, as in the poem) through the underworld. EA trademarked the name back in February, and Variety thinks the game itself will be released late next year. Platform support has yet to be announced, but it seems likely EA will want the benefit of high definition horsepower for a project of this grandeur.
Four major studios – Paramount, Universal, MGM and New Regency – are bidding for the rights to the film version.
