A U.K. agency tasked with fighting organized crime says gang bosses are running their empires behind bars by using Internet games. The Serious Organized Crime Agency believes the locked-up criminals use code words in online games’ chat rooms to operate within the jail, reports the Times Online.
The agency also alleges that these criminals use PlayStations to charge mobile phones smuggled into jail. It’s unclear if the agency is referring to the PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation Portable.
"There is other technology used – people are using PlayStations to charge their mobile phones and are playing games interactively with others, so are able to communicate with them," said Bill Hughes, the director of the agency.
Prison Service believes the allegations are bogus, however. A spokesman said that prisoners are never allowed access to wireless technology. Some years ago, Prison Service decided to ban video game consoles because they could send and receive radio signals.
