Trademark ‘Dawnguard’ hints at Skyrim DLC

A recent trademark filing by ZeniMax Media has ignited chatter on the possible identity of downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The trademark in question, titled Dawnguard, applies to "computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices.”

But why assume this is Skyrim DLC? Well, the name Dawnguard could potentially point to The Mythic Dawn, a Mehrunes Dagon-worshipping cult that appeared in Oblivion. Their nefarious activities included assassinating Emperor Uriel Septim VII and opening up Oblivion gates among others.

Little has been said of Skyrim’s DLC at present, though Bethesda’s Todd Howard has let slip we can expect multiple offerings with “a lot of meat on them.”

Will Dawnguard be part of it? We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
