GTA 5 imports discouraged with DLC region-lock

Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will be supported by post-launch content.

News comes following a warning issued by the studio regarding gamer who are thinking of importing the upcoming crime sequel. As expect, additional content won’t be compatible with the game unless it’s purchased from the same region as the title itself.

“It is generally recommended that you buy and play games that are designated for your country to avoid potential problems with DLC region-compatibility, such as with pre-order bonuses," reads a statement on Rockstar’s official website.

“For example, a North American PS3 GTAV disc (BLUS31156 code on spine of box), Japanese PS3 GTAV disc (BLJM61019 code on the spine of the box) or Asian PS3 disc (BLAS 50639 code on spine of box for Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan. BLKS20442 for Korea) will play on a European PlayStation 3 console.

“However, if you live in Europe (where the GTAV disc code is BLES01807) you will likely have a European PSN account that will not be able to redeem a US pre-order code, and will only be able to download Region 2 (European) DLC, incompatible with non-European discs.”

Of course, it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that GTA V will support DLC, though it’s handy to get the official word nonetheless.

Quite what Rockstar has planned for DLC remains a mystery, though given its past history, we can probably expect some new missions, with multiplayer-based content also highly likely.

GTA V is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September.
