Square-Enix has unveiled video footage straight from Tokyo Game Show regarding new gameplay elements coming to Final Fantasy XIV in update 2.1.
In case you missed it, check out Tim’s official review of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which he calls "the most compelling case for subscription-based gaming in almost a decade."
The dungeon called The Binding Coil of Bahamut, which exists and is playable in FFXIV already, consists of five separate areas, and this dungeon is perfect for Free Companies (FFXIV’s version of guilds) to undertake, since it requires a Full Party, or a party of eight people, to even attempt. SE intends to tease this part of its MMO, because no one has yet cleared the fifth and final Turn, or area, yet. Until the next few features make their way to FFXIV, The Binding Coil of Bahamut is a great goal for which to strive until 2.1 hits.
Check out new details on Housing in FFXIV after the page break

Housing has become a significant feature of customization in recent MMOs, including NCSoft’s Aion and Trion’s Rift, and SE is set to join the ranks in a big way. The included trailer below, which was provided alongside the other trailers from the Official Final Fantasy XIV website, shows off how much potential control that players will have with their houses, including the ability to customize over 300 different features, which includes "furniture and exteriors," according to the official posting. Unfortunately, Housing will only be available right at the launch of update 2.1 for Free Companies, but personal Housing will be added at a later date. With the Binding Coil of Bahamut already in place and Housing coming later, now is the time to get founded in a Free Company.
Check out The Wolves’ Den, FFXIV’s PvP mode, after the page break

With update 2.1, the exclusion of Player-versus-Player action will no longer be an excuse to not pick up SE’s newest MMO. Players familiar with PvP in Blizzard’s trademarked MMO will notice right away the similarity between what SE is calling The Wolves’ Den and Arena PvP in World of Warcraft. The Wolves’ Den will feature 4-on-4 arena battles which will be tiered according to levels 30 and above; so, one tier for level 30, one for 40, and one for 50. It was also teased that players will have "PvP exclusive actions" at their disposal. This first tease of the PvP maps has the makings of a very dynamic PvP system. No further details were enclosed on PvP, such as if teams have to be created or if PvP will have a PvP Finder where players can sign up and be matched with other players looking for matches, but the upcoming update for FFXIV has a lot in store.
